rotor swapability

rotor swapability

I have a four port 13b I was wondering if I could swap in other rotors without a big problem. I'm looking at getting the 9.7:1 rotors from the later 13bs.

s5 rotors will fit right in

you need to use a front and flywheel counterweight that matches the rotors tho

all 13b rotors are interchangable, the only difference being different compression and different weights

As you know, Mazda balanced each rotor at the factory. Due to slight variations in the balancing process, each rotors weight varies slightly. Mazda designates this variation by stamping a letter, (A-E), on the gear side of the rotor. According to Mazda the rotor weight should not vary more than 2 letters in an engine. Ideally, you should have matching rotors. I did verify this with Henry at Mazdatrix. If this is common knowledge, sorry to take up the bandwidth, just wanted to let everyone know.

The geometry of the post '85 13b rotors had different geometry (unsure of the 4-ports, but different from GSL-SE 13b 6-ports). They will work, but you will have a risk of them coming into contact with the rotor housing at high RPMs.

Ask a place like Mazdatrix for information about this.
