ROTARYSHACK GSL-SE 13B 4port blowthrough turbo project

Ah! the pics are back...Very nice. Doesn't a turbo car need a BOV to function properly, otherwise the compressed air has no place to go under deceleration causing big problems......

Not using a BOV makes it harder on the turbo durring shifting. It starts to spin the turbo backwards because of the built up pressure after the compressor, and puts stress on the shaft. It makes it so the turbo must spool all the way back up after you shift. It is still fine to run without one though, the turbo will put up with the abuse, and last probably 1/2-3/4 as long as normal.

Hey 680, I ran into you on anothyer site where you posted pics of the 12a you just finished. Nice job. I've got a question for you guys. I have an S5 T2 front clip that I'm swapping the motor out of. It came with ECU, harness, etc. I already have a Dellortro 48 DHLA from a different project. Now I'm really torn between using the carb or buying injectors and a feul contreoller and swapping the EFI. I'd love to run a mild street port and upgrade the compressor on the turbo. What do you guys think?

Actually, there have been studies showing that BOV's do not actually lengthen the turbos life at all. Before you give me grief on this just hear me out. Because I always thought having a turbo spinning at 100k+ RPMs and then slamming your throttles closed and surging the hell out of the compressor would be hard on it as well....it's just common sense right? But apparently turbos are alot tougher than I thought.
The Grandnational guys have been arguing over this for years. And they have tested 2 identical grand nationals one with a BOV and one w/o and ran them 100k. Then removed the turbos and mic'd out all the parts. The turbos were almost identical. Neither showing a negligible difference in wear.
Take it for what U will.... The tests have been done by several other manufacturers with similar results.
But if you drive a manual, it does help with relieving manifold pressure between shifts and if it is vented back into the inlet helps to keep the turbo spooled up between shifting as well.
If U drive an auto turbo car I'd spend the money elsewhere IMO. But since none of you do.... I'm probably ****'n in the wind here.
AND NICE CAR 680RWHP12A!
