offset?

So what offset is needed to run 15x7 with 225/50-15 tires on a SA GS?

aussiesmg 03-14-06 08:06 AM

Keep us informed....

sgieldon 03-14-06 09:10 AM

I agree with rotrmotr!
Let's get this Buy up and running before it gets lost like alot of other upgrades have in the Past.

I will even be willing to Buy a set of the JSPL or P45F just to get the Ball Rolling and weed out the (Just Lookin Croud).
I would hate to see something that us 4X110 Wheel owners have been seeking forever lost into the Dumpster because of lack of comitment. i.e What If-Can You-Colors.

The List goes on and on all the Time some Great Design gets lost in this Scenario
Lets Rock....
I'll even put up the Cash for the above wheels just to keep the interested commited.

P.S. No Bullshit Here

candyassmiler 03-14-06 12:45 PM

im in. i just have to know all the details, and be certain the wheels will fit properly inside the wheel wells, with no rubbing. the money is burning my pockets.

sgieldon 03-14-06 12:52 PM

Good Point candyassmiler;
If we are going (Example)=15x7
What Tires are goin to fit without Modding the Body i.e OffSet.

boog 03-14-06 02:56 PM

i found out the jspl's are brand new and are really sick, they wiegh just over 11 pounds and 15 inch diameter!!!

Rotary7s 03-14-06 03:37 PM

Ok,

I DONT want to dissapoint you guys.I should of read this.

I want the GT3-in a 16 in,but would like to know what are our center paint options?
I want black,or gold

If we order in a week or what not,Is this time for payment also?

I just ordered my Microtech LT8S this morning.Dont worry I have the cash,id just like to delay it some if I can.

But before I order,I want to know how much lip we are talking about on the GT3.,

rbf41182gt 03-14-06 04:38 PM

I think I could go with the J.SPL's (black center) as well, but I don't know. Do I really want to spend $500 on wheels?

Or would that money be better spent on a carb and other goodies? hmmmm

But low profile performance tires would make such a difference in handling.

Well, I better make my decision quickly

Rotary7s 03-14-06 07:13 PM

for all you 15in guys

15 in tires are alot more than 17s or 16s.

On a 7in wide rim,
I suggest 205/40/15
unless you want to go with a little smaller in width look,195/50/15

go price the tires on tirerack

DwArF 03-14-06 07:22 PM

I have a set of 4x110 5 Spoke 15inch Rotas on my Rx7.

any pics? I'm DYING to see what they look like on a 7

rotrmotr 03-14-06 09:49 PM

Hey Guys- Spoke with Rota today- good news & bad news:

Good news- all wheels come with center caps-
Bad news- the JSPL is only available in 15x6.5 a 7" wide wheel will take 2 months to make

I got at least 7 PMs for the JSPL mostly with the black/gunmetal center- and some for the full polish- this might be a problem but he (distributor) will try to push it through with the factory.

Hey where are the guys that wanted the GT3 wheels? I got only 2 serious buyers- need 3 more!!!

I am going to find out the offset for our cars in the next two days- will make a mock-up wheel for the front driver side & test different offsets- I DEFINETLY want NO rubbing & now wheels sticking out of the fenders.

The JSPL wheels will definetly be less than $400 a set & at around 11 PoUNDS A WHEEL!!!!

IT'S THE FREEKIN STEAL OF THE CENTURY!!! :djcelebra

I wish I had a blow horn!!- any other wheel with the same specs (except the Kosei) would be twice if not 3 times as expensive!

Once this first order is taken this Monday- the group-buy is not over- if there is another group of 5 guys that can agree on one wheel style- I can place another order.

For the RX-3 & RX-4 guys- I dont know if the same offset wheel for the RX-7 will fit?- If anyone with an RX-3 or RX-4 that is interested & live near NY & is willing to travel to my house- we can test the offset with my mock-up wheel? any suggestions?

P.S.- sorry for the late posts- this is the only "free" time I have- any of you guys that are married know what I am talking about ;)

candyassmiler 03-14-06 10:15 PM

get this going please. i dont care about seven inches. ive had to deal with six and a half all my life. j.spl with black centers. im excited.

boiler81 03-14-06 10:59 PM

rotrmotr - you da man. Great job. J.SPL in 15x6.5 - with full polish will work for me! (with the correct offset). I'm ready to pull the trigger on this deal as soon as the offsets locked down.

yes, having both patterns in one wheel would be the best thing to do. that way the wheels would sell reguardless of which pattern u had.

4x100 and 4x114.3 is a big diffrence

4x100 - 4x110 and 4x114.3 is not a big difrence and might cause problems with the holes being to close,NOT to mention the offset will be diffrent for many other cars.

CAN SOMEONE find out if the depth of the wheel is going to change because of the offset?

Rotary7s 03-15-06 04:09 AM

someone should photoshop these wheels on a first gen

i was actually refering to the the two patterns of the SE and non SE wheels.

aussiesmg 03-15-06 09:08 AM

still in for my set of J.SPLs, this is a great deal and thank you rotrmotr

Have you got some interest in a buy for the 114.3 lug? I could be in on a set of those but definately would want a 0 offset for those.

Lt. Dan 03-15-06 11:25 AM

Still ready and waiting....

Dan

boiler81 03-15-06 01:44 PM

Let's keep this first group buy of JSPL wheels limited to non-SE's (4 x 110mm x factory offset(+18mm?).

Non-SE's have both different hole pattern and offset requirements than -SE's.

Isn't there a bunch of wheel choices already available for -SE's?

Hey!
I'm in NYC... PM me if you think you can come by to figure this out. I'd come to you but my car is currently apart and not registered.

I also would prefer having only the 4x110 bolt on the wheels not only do I think they'd look better but it would make the wheel stronger at the hub IMHO.

candyassmiler 03-15-06 06:51 PM

lets just get it going. did someone say less than 400 a set for the j.spl? gd thats awesome.

boog 03-15-06 07:02 PM

^^^^^^exactly, time to moooove on..........how long will production and shipping take you think?

I tried fitting some "plus" style RX-7 wheels on the RX-4 the other day and they got hung up on the hub and didn't seat fully. The RX-4 has a slightly larger hub. Something on the steering also rubbed the rim near the bead. I could get all four lug bolts to thread, but only by a few threads.

Stock tires are 185 80 R13. I figured a larger and wider 15x6.5 rim would prevent rubbing of the steering components. Then of course possible rubbing of the struts becomes an issue.

I don't know how to measure for things like offset etc. What I do know is we want a rim/tire combo that will net a similar circumference to the stock 80 series tires for speedometer accuracy and ride height, not be too heavy, and not rub or stick out beyond the fenders (much).

grifff 03-16-06 08:16 AM

chalk me up for a set of the jspl's fully polished with center cap 15x6.5. also curious about how payment and shipping is going to be arranged

boog 03-17-06 12:15 AM

i cant even say how tired i am of waiting, yes i can....VERY!!! j/k, well not really but, um im ready k

rotrmotr 03-17-06 06:30 AM

Hi All- I will post the wheel list I have this Saturday & I will post my findings with Pics for the offset also- Thanks for being patient all- please let me know if I am missing someone or if you would like to join the group buy before Monday.

Rotary7s 03-17-06 09:00 AM

so are the gt3 out of the line up now?

Pending on prices,I maY SWITCH to a diffrent wheel.

Can someone photoshop the wheels (which I cannot believe someone has not done yet)

boog 03-17-06 09:33 AM

ill try to do some photoshop tonight

wecycle 03-17-06 11:13 AM

unknown

1 Will 15x7 GT -3's with 18 mm offset work on an SA GS with 225/50-15 tires?
2 How will they change from the normal 40mm to the 18mm?
By a 22mm thicker center (which would add lbs) or by attaching the center to the rim at a different point (increasing the lip)?
3 What will they weigh?
4 What will they cost?
5 How much is shipping to 95315?
I think there are 9 pages of thread and yet these critical things are not known.
I believe that is likely to be why there are not more willing to commit.
I had some wheels custom built once and they did not understand the difference between offset and backspace. The wheels would not work on my application and they would not correct the problem so I sold them to someone who could use them and started all over with a different wheel co.
I do not want to go through that again.

aussiesmg 03-17-06 12:29 PM

Actually several of these are covered if you read it thoroughly

1. +18mm is stock offset for an RX7, non SE model, check with tire rack on size suggestions.
2. They relocate the center of the rim.
3. Weight of J.SPL is reportedly 11lb, check the Rota website in the first post.
4. Prices are listed several times, they go down if more people order the wheels.
5. Shipping is subjective to weight, and location, do your research then go to UPS.com

Rotary7s 03-17-06 02:02 PM

How do you know they are using UPS,and not fed ex,or truck freight?

rbf41182gt 03-17-06 04:53 PM

So why is everyone going with the J.SPL's all of a sudden? Come on!!!

MORE PEOPLE FOR THE GT-3!!!!!!!!!

I really want them

aussiesmg 03-17-06 05:04 PM

It'll give you an idea of what they should be charging, I'm sure we'll told when its organised, calm down everyone, this guy is just getting us a deal here, jumping all over his ass wont help anything.

candyassmiler 03-17-06 06:20 PM

QUESTION:
what if one of our dumbasses busts up one of these and needs a replacement in the future?

boog 03-17-06 06:31 PM

^^^^might be a good thing to ask rota, maybe that's part of business tho, we come crawling back when a wheel breaks(if it does, i am not saying the wheels or rota are crap, but we would need custom wheels and i dont think we would get a deal again, would we??)

It didnt seem like anyone wanted the gt3's, if 4 people come together for them i will be number 5 but that didnt seem to happen, maybe we should do two threads, one for jspl and one for gt3, if neither get started soon i will do them and try to do some photoshopping

Im not mad just impatient, sorry "rotormotor" your doing your best, you rock
God bless

boog 03-17-06 07:58 PM

i made two seperate threads for the leading two wheels(jspl, gt3) i thought we should start a new and get a closer to final count, and give the gt3's yet another chance

Hey Everyone! I just finished trying out my mock-up wheel- it was harder than I thougt but I am glad I did it-

The first mock-up wheel was made to match the specs of a 15x7 (+18mm offset) wheel with 205-50 tires- this setup was too tight on the back of the front wheel- where the tire would touch the stock spring. the front was flush but too close to the fender lip. sorry no pics- the batteries in the digital camera were dead- so I put it to charge for the next setup-

The Second mock-up wheel was made to match the specs of a 15x7 (18mm offset) with 195-50 tires - this setup had more room all around with space for the tire to "give" when turning hard- see pics.

The rear wheel on both setups had more than enough room- see pics

Well- I will post the list of buyers I have tomorrow morning- if you dont see your sig- let me know or if you are interested just PM me your email address & the wheel type (JSPL or GT3) & color- I will contact Rota tomorrow to start things rolling- let me know if you have any questions-

Dude, amazing work, no wonder we havent heard from you for a while........lets get this party started, i want wheels...i guess im in for the gt-3's because i love the style better than the j.spl, i just wish more people were into them like the 5 spoke, they are going to get a killer deal.....you should tell rota to give us the gt3's for the same price that they will sell us the j.spl since we're all buying for the same car and pattern...........i would like royal silver finish with polished lip please : ) give us pricing and number of people in tom please, i dont think we should wait any longer because we have been deciding for a while ya know/...................thanks dude

should we get those tuner lugs??? here are some old pics i photoshopped for a friend....these were when the gt3's came out, the lip is decent.....we gotta a lot of christmas jokes out of this car for a while because the car itself was green(second pic shows what i called 'rudolf') ; )

KcKhan 03-20-06 02:22 AM

I really like the j.spl wheels, id like to get a set, what info do you need from me? shoot me an email or a pm on here.

I have an 85 gs with stock rims now, so whatever size that would be

hit me back

Rotary7s 03-20-06 03:07 PM

rotrmotr,

I dont think the offset would change for the 16 in?
Looks like it might look good,I just dont like a flat wheel, which is my concern.
Them fenders are going to need the lips rolled.

I want the GT3,I dont know what color,My car is going to be repainted white, same as the 10th AE.So basically i can do any color,Id even go with that wild ass red.

I have side skirts, front air dam,and a few diffrent wings im going to put on,This si why I want a deeper look.

boog 03-20-06 03:16 PM

that makes sense, deep dish is the way to go with alot of body mods like that, i really like the gt-3 and i think they will suit the car well....do you think that the fenders will really have to be rolled with a 15x7' wheel?............

- i think white gt-3's (especially in 16") would look awesome on a white car....or the slightly bronze too

Rotary7s 03-20-06 03:39 PM

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...hmentid=163120

In this pic,the wheel is flush with the outer fender.Keep in mind you have about 2- 21/2 more inches of tire on top of that, with weight and body roll.

I personally* I will take the time and roll my lips.I just feel its better that way.

What does Rota say for the offset?

rbf41182gt 03-20-06 06:59 PM

I think black would look the best on a white car, especially with all the black trim.

Bronze would look cool too, but I haven't seen a whole lot of that.

~b.k.
