Just an opinion fellas, If I could afford a show car I still wouldn't own one.
Trailer queens just aern't my thing. I do have an apriciation for concours type classics(though I'd never care to own one) but not for imports that glow in the dark. Sorry.

i dont see how show cars are gay. i do understand some of the shows held do have cars that are a bit overdone. but no all show cars are the same . my cousin builds show cars , hondas to be exact and he actually wins many shows . he builds hatch backs with fully built turbo engines that i wish i could drive because of thier power to weight ratio. 400 hp and 1900lbs is very interesting
i never could understand how someone could build such a beautiful and fast car and NEVER drive it the way it was meant to be driven. NOW putting some 24 inch spreewells on a FB and making it loook like a tank thats what im talkin about hahahahahahah

i guess it's the fact that they seem so damn unnatural to me. I mean, it's colored light coming from beneath your car! It makes the car look like a ufo or something

400 HP on a 1900 lbs FWD car. . . . .
USELESS. No way that car can be properly driven on a road course, or even a drag. Too much power, too little weight, and not enough tire surface possible to get it all to the road.

Back to the topic, though

Underglow is good on the right car.
I've seen it on trucks. NO. Bad.
On a car like an FD, YEAH, great looking if they're high enough up in the body so you can't see the lights themselves.
4 door sedans? Eh, depends on how it's done, but can look good.

Classic looking car like an FB or a Z car? I dunno about that.

I distinguish rice as things that are there to make the car appear like it can perform better than it actually does or ever could. Wings, Type R emblems, and fart cans fall into this category. Lighting and interior mods are purely a matter of taste.

thats whats good about the led kits.. they dont shatter.. no broken tubes to worry about.. and as for fart cans.. they have a purpose.. they let alot of exhaust through very quickly.. which is a big plus on turboed cars

I've always thought that people who restore their cars yet never drive them are stupid. I have been on the vintage car restoration scene for a while now and have seen some pretty impressive 98-100 point cars in some of the concourse meets. I know one guy who has a 63 T-bird with 12,000 actual miles on it. It still has its original belts and hoses. He puts about 10 miles a year on the car, generally on the trailer and back off of it. The rest of the time is spends its life in a climate controlled, hepafiltered garage.

The car is impressive and looks like it literally came off the showroom floor. It is also a run of the mill 63 Thunderbird hardtop, and not a very well optioned one as well. It is probably worth 18-20K due to its low miles and pristine condition but we aren't talking about a rare M-Code (three duce tbird) Sport's Roaders model of the T-bird. If a car is an especially rare vintage car (like a 64 Thunderbolt, 427 Vette or a vintage Porche) I can see going through the trailer queen bit but to spend 50K on a Jetta just seems stupid.

Just me but at it's root these cars are transportation.

You're missing the point. A turbo'd car actually can perform, and therefore isn't doing it only to give the impression that it can. A stock Civic isn't being helped by a fart can, and is rice as I define it.

I think they could have done a better job at taking a photograph of it, if my car was a show car I’d buy it. There’s tacky and there’s ok, it can go either way with an under glow kit.

Not the ones in my area. Most of the kids here just slap a fart can on a stock civic. Generally it goes from mom to kid and kid has to futz with it.

I never have understand why someone would actually want their car to sound like a riding mower.

To each their own I guess.

hammmy i dont really think you make any sense.. how am i close minded when i understand that people are different and have different tastes.. in fact i have a "fart can" on my eclipse.. and yes it makes a difference.. seems to me like fart cans are a very good idea.. since most sport compacts upgrade to them... motorcycles have them.. and even supercars are sporting them.. i even know a few rx-7s that have them.. mostly second gens but still.. anyways.. i am done arguing this point.. you have your feelings and i have mine. lets leave it at that

You're the one not making sense. You're preaching the "live and let live" line, and then arguing with us when we state our--protected under your creed--opinion that fart cans are useless-as-go-fast noisemakers. Just because my opinion differs from yours doesn't make it close-minded.

but you see they arent useless... they do increase the useable hp.. they are a straight through design... most mufflers arent.. most use baffles and mazes to keep the sound down... its not that the fart cans make the car sound bad.. thats how the car sounds normally without being muffled.. its not the mufflers fault its the engine.. small engines that are 4 bangers sound like lawn mowers for a reason.. its because they only have 4 cylinders.. so the exhaust pulses arent evened out enough for it to sound smooth.. we dont have to worry about that because our exhaust sounds smooth.. except for bridgeports..

you are entitled to your opinion.. but opinion is useless when there are facts that you dont know about. i think maybe you should read up on fart cans before you go around calling them useless.

Ok, I'll clarify my opinion: fart cans are useless for street use. Increasing HP by sacrificing most exhaust sound muffling is fine for track use, but is not fine when it impacts a non-track environment. It's great to say that it's just personal taste, but that line of thinking breaks down when it starts negatively affecting everyone around you. And, like wklink, I dislike it more when you have persons just slapping on the noisemaker solely to make it sound louder and faster. Again, that falls under my personal definition of rice.

My opinion on that is if you are offroading the vehicle then that is fine. If you are doing it to compensate for something then it is stupid.

No one is saying the can't do something like put a fart can on a one inch exhaust. I am just saying it is stupid.

So are a lot of things I did as a teenager, like the big fat tires on a jacked up rear end (remember that, oh what we would do to a 77 Cutlass), lowering a pickup truck to 3 inches off the ground -with the complementary YO on the back-how cool is that

If you like that crap, then fine. I do get irritated when I am sitting next to the fool, the guy who somehow has decided that his brand of music is soooooooooo good that it has to be shared with everyone at the stoplight. Sit up straight, turn the brim of the hat to the front, turn the ******* radio down and get the damned Civic back to mom. She needs to go to the store.

To me, rice is anything that does not in any way increase the performance or appearance of any part of the vehicle.

So with this in mind, there aren't a whole lot of things that are rice to me. Fart cans can increase performance and appearance if done properly, but the big aluminum wings are just rice. The fart can frees up horsepower and IMO looks good if you do it right, but the wing doesn't really add any kind of downforce and looks stupid IMO.

In the end, its really just personal taste. I personally like neon underglows. I'll probably end up putting a set under my 7 when its done. Again, this has to be done right though. You can't be able to see the bulbs, just the glow eminating from them.
