Not sure if this is worth a thread in reality, but I felt it was. After much frustration, wrench turning, and mashing things with hammers of various weights (gently of course and only where required), my recently acquired 85 GSL is now road worthy. Almost two weeks of angry brake bleeding, wire chasing, and wheel bearing asshattery. According to the previous owner she had sat for a long period of time (garaged, however), thus the complicated mess.
Words of caution:
1) If the owner says the brakes are stuck, he's probably ignorant. All four calipers just needed some vigorous C-clamp loving and a good bleed. All were surprisingly in good shape for a midwest 7.
2) If the owner says he rebuilt the hubs, he was full of it. It is an interesting feeling when your front wheels sag because the inner wheel bearing is missing its outer race . As an aside, I hate lithium grease.
In all, I'm happy. This is a good weekend.
