Rescued an FB: a what have a got myself into thread
I just bought my third rx7 yesterday in a deal I just couldn't pass up, as I'm new to first gens I could use a little help identifying what I have. It's an 85 with power mirrors, windows, cruise, adjustable headrest seats with lumbar and drum brakes in the rear. Is it a gs or gsl?
The main reason I bought the car (other than the complete lack of body rot) is whats under the hood. It appears to have a 4 port 13b out of an old school rx along with a mindtrain header and presilencer. Ive already got it to run but it needs some carb work. I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if I have the same nikki the 12as were all equipped with or do I have something unique to this old 13b?
Here are a few pics I snapped earlier today:

great find!! sounds to me like the started out life as a GSL and someone stold the disc brake rear end out of it and swapped in a GS drum brake rear. the odd things that i see about the car is the out of place 70's 13B rotor housings and the use of the beehive oil cooler. not a very great oil cooler for such a rare engine. post pics of the interior and that should help identify the model.

Great find man, I'm jealous! Get those piece of **** autolite spark plugs out of there though...
If you need info on the carb, head over to Sterling's site and he'll help you out.

Keep your eyes open for a rear end with disc brakes and LSD. You're going to want one...
You planning to bring it to the race in Lansing?.
Oh yeah, Mindtrain is Yummy!!!!! But you need to get a Sterling on that badboy now...

Definitely get the Sterling. Your already set with the Mindtrain system. You'll love the performance boost the Sterling gives you. You should definitely bring it to Lansing so Kentetsu and I can pick at it and see what's up. A FMOC will make a huge difference in coolant temps. Did you check for the inner fender rust? If not pull the storage bins behind the seats and look in at the seam where the floor meets the fender. This area is prone to rust and can cause problems with the suspension if it lets go. If it's there it needs to be fixed as soon as you can. Otherwise the car looks great and with some TLC and the right parts (ahem STERLING, cough cough, RE-speed, cough) she'll be a fun little rocket that you can chase Kentetsu with.
See ya in Lansing.

I don't think that is a mindtrain header. The rear rotor's pipe curves under the front pipe almost immediately on a mindtrain. Maybe it it a rotary engineering one? Do the two pipes join in the pipe after the header itself?

Thanks for all the replies, I'm surprised how much attention this car is getting. Hopefully I can answer a few questions and raise a few more.
mazdaverx713b: Here are the pics of the interior you requested, I'm not really sure what exactly I should be photographing so I just took a few general shots.
^this makes me wonder if this car was originally equipped with power windows..
Chris and Mark: Taking it to Lansing definitely has crossed my mind but this car has been sitting for six years since the po thought he blew the engine. Needless to say, I have a bit of work to get this thing road worthy.
Everyone that has been commenting on the egr plate: I decided to take off the block off plate to satisfy everyone's curiosity, much to my surprise it's actually a coolant port. For what, I have no idea.
And just for reference and because I have one lying around, a shot of a S4 6port's egr:

I am starting to think that car has been pieced together. My 84 GSL has buttons instead of the lever to control the climate system. Pretty sure they didn't change that for just 85. I think your Logicon unit is from an earlier model. It just seems to be an odd mix of parts. Are you staying for the whole weekend or just Saturday? I may just swing by on my way home Sunday and have a looksie.

GS with GSL door panels. No holes for window handcranks.
My guess would be someone in the cars past had either a motor or a shell in good shape and decided to build himself a 7. Got whatever parts he could that were in good shape. Got the interior from a GSL and realized he didn't want to cut into the door panels to install handcranks, so he rigged up the wiring himself. The motor was sitting in his buddy's garage so he grabbed that and he needed a rear axle so off to the wreckers and he grabbed the first one he could. Kinda sorta explains the mishmash of parts. But hey, she runs, has a nice interior and a carby 13B. That would make me happy.
