Request advice on clutch kits

I'm swapping transmissions on my white 4 GSL and want to put in a new clutch kit (clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearings). The car is a lightly modified 12A (maybe 120 HP) that I use as my daily driver, mostly for long daily commutes on the interstate (no racing or hard driving, too old for that).

The last clutch kit I did, for my tan 84 GSL last year, was from Advanced Auto for $157.00, a stock replacement manufactured by Perfection. I think I can do a little better on ebay, here are some kits that are currently available:

Aimco OEM, Buy It Now $89.00 + $17.00 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

remanufactured by Fort Wayne Clutch, starting bid of $49.00 plus shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Exedy OEM (Daikin), Buy It Now $95.00 + $17.00 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

XTD Stage 2 racing, Buy It Now $145.00 + $18.00 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

eClutchmaster, OEM, Buy It Now $119.00 + $20.00 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

All things considered in order of importance are:

Quality (performance - "feel" and long lasting), price, support for worthy companies, other issues?

Which would you choose and why?

Thanks!
Ray

This would be my choice.

Aimco OEM, Buy It Now $89.00 + $17.00 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Reasons for this selection.
1. NOT a rebuild - new OEM parts (various suppliers are OK)
2.NO NEED for a racing clutch and added expen$e
3.eClutchmaster looks like just a middle man and product lacks details/maybe the same as others but no justification for higher $
4. Good up to 220 HP they claim
5. Cheaper than Exedy

End of story

bbbbulllshit. that wont last long for daily driving. Good clutch aint cheap. Do a search on the clutch lining instead of manufacturer/builder.

not bbbbbullllshit. it is a daily driver, 120 Hp... lining specs are not easy to locate.
I think the price is right. WHY put a $300 clutch in?
And the last one was from Advance Auto so you're likely to get a better one from Aimco.

What about that Exedy one, it's only $6.00 more. Would it be any better than the Aimco? Even a little better would be worth $6.00.

I agree with WackyRacer, a good clutch is not cheap. But I won't be abusing it either, so I don't think I need to pay extra bucks for a truck clutch.

In fact, I don't think I have ever worn out a clutch, I did the one in my Tan GSL last summer because it needed a pilot bearing, not the clutch plate, which still had plenty of wear.

Anybody every use the Aimco and/or Exedy clutches?

If it were me personally I would not skimp when it came to the kind of clutch I need. A factory clutch would prob do fine, but if you ever start geting harsh on it, it is not gonna hold up like a good aftermarket street/strip one will. Trust me I have been there and done that. I had a clutchmasters in my Integra and it ws one of the best clutches i have ever put in. Held up great and never once showed even a sign that it would slip.

how about a rotary performance one?

http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/sadrivetrain_clutch.html

It's the "RP standard clutch kit", not the Bonez one. A little pricey, $150 for 79-82, and $200 for 83-88. I might get this instead of a Racing Beat street/ strip package, but I don't know.

This is what they say about it:

"For stock or mildly modified cars, we offer our RP Standard clutch kit which utilizes high quality, OEM spec components. The RP Standard Clutch kit is better than stock, it can handle up to 10% more power, but is not intended for racing use. You get the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing and seal, and even a clutch alignment tool; all the parts you’ll need for a complete clutch replacement. This is the kit we’ve been using in our shop for stock or mildly modified, street driven cars with great results."

I would never install a cheap *** Advance, autozone, pep-boys or anything similar brands in my customer's cars. Otherwise, it will clutch will slip within days as it engine reving fast but going nowehre. Keep in mind that I WILL LOOSE on LABOR AND TIME for installing cheap parts.

Where did you get the idea that a a lining is hard to find. Just go to a clutch builder and tell them your specs. Its that simple. I prefer raybestos over daiken on stock clutches.

Just go to a clutch builder? Holy cow. And what specifications would one give them? I just like shopping over the internet. And if they say it meets OEM specs, then it should be suitable.

Never believe those ad stuff. I can get the lining replaced for less $30. But again, thats using lining that I wont even use on my personal vehicle. Oh yeah, I can say its OEM specs and pocket the difference which is BS IMHO. When you do a job, do it right to make customers happy.

OK guys, thanks for all the excellent insights. I put all of your responses into this really cool response averaging program that I have and it spit out the winning clutch kit:

Exedy OEM (Daikin), Buy It Now $95.00 + $17.00 shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

I'm guessing that Exedy is a good, reputable aftermarket supplier. And at $50 less than the "Perfection" kit I got last year from Advanced Auto, that's $50 saved. As Capt. Murph says, "if it meets OEM specs, then it should be suitable"

Thanks for the feedback
Ray
