Replacing a parking brake cable.

Can someone give me some directions for replacing a (passenger side) brake cable? The Haynes manual seems to only mention adjusting the hand lever.

I ordered a new brake cable. Now I've just got to figure out how to get it in. I crawled under the car when I had the front end on stands and it looks like a heat shield around the exhaust has to come off in order to get at the line.

Or maybe I can take the hand lever out and push the new cable down through a tube.

Have you tackled this before?

the cable splits about half way under the car. It goes into two different cables. Take the shield off and you will see it. Pretty easy job. You should only need to lift the rear to swap it out..

Hmm, can you be any more specific? I'm trying to remove the cable as well, but can't figure out how to get it detached from the brake so that it comes through the backing plate.

The cable is attached in 3 places. A pin and cotter pin in front (clevis), a clip,(the same clip that holds the brake lines), where the cable goes through the frame rail and at the caliper.

With disc brakes, to remove the cable from the caliper, you have to either adjust the parking brake handle to it's loosest position, or pull the pin at the front of the cable. For drum brakes, I believe it is attached inside the drum.
