Replacing the Clutch, and diagnosis of failure

Nice. It's like a street strip pressure plate and a stockish disc combination. I say stockish because of how it engages (close to the floor, like you said), and because it's not an actual HD disc or a limited marcel type disc as far as I know.
I'd like to use this very combination in the Cosmo. It has a helper spring like an '84-'85, and when it had a stock pressure plate with a stock disc, it was really soft and engaged starting in the middle and was finished at the top of pedal travel. It didn't feel all that great. I'd prefer a slightly harder pedal that engages closer to the floor and can hold more HP since it's getting a Camden and a 2.5" RB and Magnaflow exhaust. Sound good?

Well, I'm pretty darned happy with this clutch so far. Plenty of grab, but smooth as silk. And I'd say the action is slightly easier than with the RB PP on it, so the leg doesn't get so tired sitting in traffic.
However, I was expecting a much bigger difference in "pep" with the new flywheel, but I really don't feel much difference. But hey, it works great so I ain't gonna bitch about it.

lmao. I was wrong. The power was not there. ![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
All the way down to the Dragon, I had what felt like an ignition breakup issue whenever I really got on it. It got worse over time, and eventually I could barely even use the secondaries. This became a real pain once I got down into the mountainous areas.
When I arrived I did a bit of inspection and found that the negative battery terminal was split. I'm referring to the clamp at the end of the cable. So it was just flopping around more or less. For a short term solution I drove a screw in between the clamp and the post, which tightened things up. Problem was only slightly improved, but I still had a blast ripping it up on the Dragon, because even the primaries on the Sterling are pretty damned agressive. Duffman rode with me at one point and I think he had the impression that I was running a ported 13b. He seemed pretty surprised when I told him it was a stock port 12a with an ignition issue. lol.
So, I get on the road for the 16 hour drive home, with nothing but time to think. As I mentally reviewed every part of every system, fuel pressure started to nag at me. Then, I suddenly remember that I had completely closed off the fuel pressure regulator when I pulled the motor so that the line would stop dripping. Dumnass! So I checked, and sure enough I'm running less that 1psi. lol.
Bumped her up to about 3.75 and tried her out again. HOLY **** BATMAN!!!! It had been so long since I had last driven her, that I had forgotten how strong she should have been. I was massively down on power that whole time, and never even realized it. Gotta laugh at that.
Anyway, the trip went great. The car did just fine, and there were no hassles with Johnny Law (although there is probably an Indiana State Trooper still trying to find me).
The power feels great. The clutch is great. The flywheel is finally showing what a difference it makes. Happy car, Happy owner.

I'll tell you what Jeff. After hearing DJ55B's car run up and down the road as he was giving out rides (I was eating dinner on the patio at the time, couldn't see him, only hear him), I'm suddenly thinking that getting bumped out of CSP might be worth it. Holy **** is that car fast!!! That car was as impressive as the 20b 3rd gens that were there. No ****.
So I'm thinking, suspension and handling are all done, so maybe a ported motor and big hp should be next on my list.

Glad you got your fuel system figured out. Glad the new stuff feels great.
I finally got a chance to drive my setup yesterday. Good quick revs, good pedal effort, good amount of grabbiness vs slip when starting. Good power up to a point; like yours, my exhaust is now bugging me. Seems to run out of breath by 4k. Sounds sharp and ratty. Too small, too loud. I get to drop the center section and muffler today and start fabbing up a new setup with RB universals and Magnaflow.
What are your exhaust plans?

I'm really not sure yet, but it will probably just be a muffler replacement. Magnaflow, Borla, Rat Trap, not really sure yet. I would like to find out what dj55b is using, because his car sounded like a beast, but again that has a lot to do with the porting I'm sure...

dj55b is running some home made mufflers. If his car is what you were hearing, that must by why it sounded so good.
If I could make a suggestion, choose Magnaflow. Get yourself a 5x8 oval with an center/offset configuration. Also 18" long. The core diameter should be 2", 2 1/4" or 2.5" but no larger. Choose the size that matches your current pipe diameter.

Haha, nice to see you might be coming around. Once my car is finished up and the engine is broken in I'll come out for a race and let you rip it up once or twice to see what it feels like. Aside from the rack and pinion conversion my suspension will be nearly identical to yours. Almost done too. Just have to get the rack and u-joints in, and the engine will be done mid next week. I can almost taste the premix.
Sam's car is definitely fast. Once he gets into the higher RPM's those ITB's really show what they're worth.

Yeah, Sam's car is very impressive. Glad to hear you're making progress Chris, any chance you'll be done by July 4th weekend? Got another big two day event that weekend at a great venue.
