Question Replacement gasket foam for blower motor and potential plug.

It is an '81. I had to remove the blower motor to replace the resistor and the gasket material that seals the top of the blower motor and the rectangular clip were ripped in the process, no surprise. I tried using a cork gasket material from NAPA as a replacement since they had no foam but it doesn't give a good seal, it can be seen in the second picture. The Mazda dealership no longer carries it either. Has anyone found a good replacement material for it? I am losing a lot of my air out the bottom of my passenger's seat because of this. There is also a hole to the right of the band, I am not sure if that is supposed to be plugged or not, can someone tell me? Here is a picture of the area: imgur: the simple image sharer

I also have one additional question. There was a cable attached to the upper part of my blower motor but I removed it not thinking to take a picture first so I could know how to put it back on. Looking at the FSM and parts manual I can't find anything to show how to reattach it. Could someone give me a bit of help here on how it should be reattached? I took a picture of its current state: imgur: the simple image sharer
