OK, I'm new here and I just got an Sc22 but I can't manage to get the shiftknob off...I sewarched, but all I found was how to get a 2nd and 3rd Gen. **** off. I tried those tutorials, but I had no success.
BTW, I've got a manual

For my '80, all you do is turn it counterclockwise for a while. It should eventually come off. If that doesn't work I don't know what to tell you, but I am almost positive that all first gens(along with most other cars) have twist off shift *****.

There should be a chrome locking nut or something of the sort. It's below the **** on the shifter. Just take an adjustable wrench to it. Just make sure you turn it clockwise looking down on it. After you loosen that up, just unscrew the shift ****.

Bleh, I never could get mine off. Everytime I try turning that locking nut, it does nothing. Everytime I try just twisting it off, it does nothing.
So I'm stuck with my crappy shift **** with worn out numbers, looking all ugly as hell, when I have a PERFECTLY GOOD one sitting in the glove box

BE FOREWARNED: if you apply too much torque to the shifter shaft, the rubber that binds it to the transmission "nub" will fragment and tear off, leaving you to drill and tap set screw holes in the base of the shifter shaft. This doesnt take much time, but you feel like a **** (heh) afterwards

Are you guys talking about taking off the shifter ****? You just unscrew it, then it comes off. Or you could extract the transmission, fashion it in your vice and whale away with a sledge hammer, whatever. Say, do any of you guys have a stock **** without the split down the middle? I'm offering cash dollars.

Well I tried all of those...no success. The little nut thingy just below the shifter is attached to the shift ****...and it seems to be stuck
Any ideas?
