3 ratchet straps and a pole or 4x4. Comes out with 2 people or super easy with a third. Make sure to take out your radiator or the front pullys will mess up the fins on it. I know me and another guy on here both use this method. Should take a hour or less with two people from start to end to pull it. Another word of advice take your carb and intake off. The slightest bump can crack the lower ears on the intake.

use the bolt hole for the front eyelet (by the dizzy) and one of the tranny bolt holes diagonal from it. get some appropriate chain, bolts, nuts and large washers.
do NOT lift it out by the front only!

i plan on taking the carb and intake off, but i left them on for now, since its "spring" here in Tennessee... that means rain, and lots of it. until i actually go to pull it, i will leave them and the exhaust mani on. and i have access to an engine hoist, so ill be using it lol...
thank you for clearing that up diabolical... is there a way to use the tranny hole with the tranny still in the car? i really dont plan on taking it out...

EDIT: in the past, I've seen people use the hole at the inspection plate, but it made me nervous just watching. the tranny hole is better because once you bolt the chain to the housing (leaving no play) it just seems to me that the chain then takes the lion's share of the load. I may be wrong though. I just play a physicist on TV.

You're on the right track - ask lots of questions. These engines are really light and easy to remove. Prolly can find someone on this board somewhere that has spare lift eyes that may be willing to sell you cheap or even just mail to you. If I had some I would, but I had to use bolts into the threads where they go to lift the last two engines I pulled apart.
Good luck!

lol i would just lift it out, i have another 12a sitting so i know how heavy they are, but i have access to an engine hoist from a buddy 2 houses down from me, so i figured i could just make it easier on myself lol

Yeah, go that route. I lift em with the alternator lift point bracket (that was taken off of your car) and the transmission lift point bracket (on the bolt of the transmission on the passenger's side, opposite of the bolt by the slave clutch cylinder). Check your spare 12a, it might have them still on it.

lol i never thought of that.... ill look tomorrow, but i already got it out haha.. hardest part was getting it separated from the tranny by myself to lift it out but it still wasnt that bad.
ill probably be taking it apart tomorrow to see what exactly went wrong. i will post up some pics of the aftermath when i get it apart.

I have taken the engine and trani out together, but you wiill have to lift from the front and have the car jacked up also to give the trani room to pivot at an angle you will tip the engine and trani at an angle and pull it out. Just make sure the radiator is out and oil cooler is out along with the intake and exhaust manifolds. Take the cooling fan clutch assembly off as well so it won't get in the way... also when you get ready to pull it together don't forget to drop the trani support out aswell. I hope I haven't forgotten anything.

Still its better to be safe than sorry if you bump that radiator with the engine while pulling it it will cost a lot more than the time it would take to remove the 8 bolts holding the radiator in plus will already have the upper and lower hoses off for the engine pull. I work on cars for a living and have bumped the radiator before pullling an engine. Things happen and you learn from them. Just trying to pass on some wisdom. And yeh you don't have to pull all of it at once I thought from an earlier post you didn't want to split the engine and trani.
