removal of A/C????

Just curious but, if i remove the A/C from my 84GSL, will it create much less drag on the engine???

If so what else has to be removed, besides the A/C pump??? ( i never removed the A/C from a car before)

If it is slowing down my car and burning more gas, i don't want it on there anyway.
It needs to be recharged, and, i'm not going to waste the money on it when i can just roll down the windows and take off the sunroof.

if you donot use it, then definatly get rid of it.. just rip out all of the hoses, compressor, canister and what not...
you would also want to remove the a/c coils in front of the radiator as you will no longer need them. with out the a/c they are just unneccesary weight that interupts the airflow to the radiator.

with out it on it just free wheels on the pulley. but it is quite a bit of weight to drop, especially the cast iron bracket that it bolts to and as riffraff said, the condensor inturrupts air flow to the radiator. the only thing else you'll nee dto do that i have yet to do is plug the 2 hardlines going through the firewall if you leave that section under the dash.

bill..... if your also wanting to free up some power while your at it, how 'bout an electric fan, less parasitic drag plus more room to get to stuff.

What EXACTLY can you use to plug the two hard lines in the firewall?

In case you are wondering my air conditioning system weighed 25.3 lbs. If you are concernded about weight then take out the spare, it weighs 26 lbs.

My two cents

I've put it on several of my 7's ( have had 8 ) it's not really all that noticeable powerwise, but it really opens it up under the hood..I've never dynoed it....my TII has no air pump, no p/s pump, and no a/c...just one belt ...too bad it's going bye bye

....better yet rip out the carpet and the sound deadening material, it weighs 65 pounds. I can't remember if that included the spare or not....either way it's a lot of weight.
