Question Relays???

Hey All!

I don't know what happened with the last thread. It just sort of stalled while posting. oh well, here we go again... What are the things that look like relays on the the front of the drivers shock tower? Are they needed, or is there a way around them. Keep in mind my vehicle will have a 12a with no emmisions control. It is a 79 if that makes a difference.

I understand this post may have been asked millions of times before, so I apologize, but as of right now, I have no idea what these things are, or what they are called, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

are you talking about the fusable links? brown plastic box, with about 3" long looped wires on one side?

Basically they are slow burn fuses to keep from frying stuff (obviously)

No, i'm talking about the block on the front side of the shock tower. They are next to the fusible links. Thanks anyway.

Possibly

I've never seen under the hood of a '79, but if somebody upgraded your ignition system from the crappy points style to an '80 style setup. ..then that box would be your ignitors. Who knows why if they did this they didn't go for a 81-85 distributor with the ignitors on the dist. which is supposedly better. Although I've never had trouble with mine and I've had it for 3 years (oh man, I'm just asking for something to go wrong now). What color's your seven? I've seen a white '79 in Nanaimo and a Blue one at a gas station garage in Duncan, other than that there's only a couple first gens I see around town on a regular basis. Flag me down if you see me 'round. Good luck with the mystery box!

Dunno on that but on my 85, one is the choke/check relay, it makes the lights on the dash go out upon starting (sends a signal from the alt to turn the dash lights - idiot lights that is off) One of the other ones I the AC relay, the 2 behind it I dont know for sure

Point suck! I have a 79' as well that I just got done upgrading to 84' electronic ignition. What a difference for such little work! Go for it! you wont regret it. Oh yeah, when your finished with the swap, take those little resistors and thow them in your neighbors lawn, and watch the suprize on his face when he runs them over with the lawn mower!
