rebuilding S3 13b with S4 parts, what fits?

I'm not needing to rebuild my SE's engine yet but I'm looking to do it someday soon. My buddy has a set of S4 housings I was going to use but now I understand the whole thing about the coolant seal being on the S3 housings. So S4 housings are out right? Also I was reading about hardened stationary gears, they are stock on the S5 right? can they be used on other engines, like for example 12a plates?

You are correct you can't mix housings from s3 to s4 and onward, but that doesn't matter anyhow you can use the internals from s4/s5/s6 in your GSL-SE motor.

Be sure to check for the letter stamped on different rotors, each letter represents a weight, the rotors you chose must have the same letter stamp.

gears and all that crap can be swapped for other years.

so basically I should get a S4 and rebuild it. Does anyone know when they switched to the harder stationary gears? I want to streetport and run my redline up around 8k.

Hardened gears are not a stock thing. It is an aftermarket thing.

Hardened gears started with the S5 model, Thats part of how they got the 8k redline. With the S6 they added the 3 window bearings.

so you can use the S5 gears on 12a housings right? you can use S6 (third gen?) bearings on any 13b rotor too right?

You can also use the N/A '86-'91 rotors on your '84-'85 too.
