Rebuild Kit - kinda specific question

K so im trying to decide on rebuild kits.

I know the basics, Atkins have good kits, racing beat has a good kit.

Ive heard Mazda OEM parts are the way to go, other ppl say atkins have some sweet exclusive parts like the corner seals.

Would you guys recommend the racing beat kit Or an atkins kit (seems they offer more parts for money)

If Atkins would you recommend "Kit C" or Master Overhaul kit.

I Tried to copy and paste and here is the link http://www.atkinsrotary.com/RebuildKitContents.htm

The Kit C has everything but thrust bearings and oil pump chain. Master does not come with rotor and main bearings, pilot and bearing seal, and oil ring springs.

Thanks again.

Either way is fine. I like OEM stuff myself. If you can have the car down awhile longer, it is best to tear everything down, clean, and measure. Things like bearings, sideseals, oil pump chain can normally be reused. If it is fairly high milegae engine that you are rebuilding, plan on at least:

- gasket set
- apex seals
- all springs
- oil control o-rings
- FD corner seal springs (optional, but recommended)

If you don't have the time to do it this way, I would say either kit C or the master and buy the pilot bearing/seal and oil ring springs separate. Either way, ask for the FD corner springs if the kit does not already have them.

As for the bearings, new bearings will mean a longer break-in time. Also have to be a bit more careful about oil starvation, abuse, etc. in the break-in period. This is why good used bearings can be better than new ones.

Edit: Do you happen to autocross or do other form of racing? If so, you can join Mazda Motor Sports and get the OEM parts for the prices that the dealers get them for. You only need 2 races per year to qualify. Works for US and Canada.

The car is not my DD, so down time is not a huge concern. When you say the new bearings and whatnot have a longer break in time, Like what are we talking about?

Well, everyone has a different definition as for the number of miles for break-in, what RPMs are allowed, etc. From what I have seen, most say that new bearings will double break-in period (for instance old bearings 1500 miles, new bearings 3000 miles). It just means that you will have to baby your car longer before you can beat on it is all.

The bearings are not very expensive or anything, but you may want to check your old bearings before getting new ones. Also read up on increasing oil pressure or other mods while open (like porting). nopistions has an excellent section on building/porting engines. I would go over there and do a bunch of reading.

I picked my kit up from Pineapple Racing. I was impressesed with their service. I used all stock components except for Pineapple's water seals. IMO OEM is the way to go. Mazda invested millions of dollars into their reseach.

K thanks for input

And sorry adict, i missed the edit portion of your first post. I would like to autocross, but was unaware of what qualifys as a "race". There is a car club in my area and they do autox and such but i didnt know if that would qualify as a race.

So kit "C" come with this...

Atkins Rotary 84-85 13B Master Rebuild Kit:
GSL-SE Gasket Kit
3mm Apex Seals & Springs
Side Seals & Springs
Metal Oil Control Rings
Viton Oil Ring Inserts
Oil Pump Chain
Front & Rear Main Seals
3mm Solid Corner Seals
93+ Corner Seal Springs
Hylomar
Thrust Bearings
Oil Filter

I guess from this kit all your really missing is rotor bearing's unless yours are with in spec

This is the mazdatrix kit with out gaskets pretty damn expensive if you ask me but this one comes with a little more...

I like the value for money for sure. Was just trying to decide between them. Addicts info definetly helped, ill have to check and see if my rotor bearings are good or not.

Thumbs up

and that is the same reason why i would go with the mazdatrix kit that i pasted up there...bang for the buck your getting a little bit more in the master kit that atkins does not have...Rear, front, and main rotor bearing are not expensive at all, and neither is the gasket...So all in all for a complete well sought out brand new internals you looking at about $1200.00 give or take...

You get a true master rebuild kit with everything you need brand new!!!
rotor bearings for both rotors
stationary bearing front and rear
12a gasket kit

Click here for price of complete 12a package

So all in all best bang for the buck is the mazdatrix little package there...all your internals will be brand new except for the fact of the e-shaft, rotors, and stationary gears...
