rear wheel bearing? 1982
1982 RX-7: 160,000 miles. Looking for experiences or comments for replacing rear wheel bearings. Seem to be getting alot of noise from the back. this car was always a bit noisy, road noise from the back, but this is louder. jacked up the back, checked differential oil through side hole (this oil was changed 4 years ago) and the oil level is good and oil clean. with wheels up, the left rear wheel will give slightly and make clunky sound when twisted horizonatally. I am guessing bad wheel bearing. Any experiences or comments welcomed. thanks...........this car sat for years, I believe this can be hard on bearings and such.

rear wheel bearing might be your problem.
Usually you need to rent an axle puller slide hammer (auto zone, you basically put up a deposit), remove rear brakes, brake cylinder, 4 nuts holding on the flange plate, and then pull the axle.
If the rear bearing is bad, you need to go to a machine shop or some muffler shops, and get a new one and retaining ring pressed on ( approx $60 per side).
Biggest headaches are putting the the drum brakes back on , and finding a business that will press on the bearing.
