Rear Hatch Struts

Just to comment on some Archive threads about Rear Hatch Struts.

I replaced my worn out/leaking rear hatch struts today. It went on my 84 -SE with rear wiper. Stockers were replaced with the StrongArm 4709 struts. I had to hack off the end of the old strut just to swap electrical connectors for wiper motor. Other than that, it was extremely painless. The StrongArm struts provide enough support to keep hatch fully open.

If you're looking to replace your struts, use these - even with the wiper!

Why bother with all that. I had my original struts rebuilt for $30 each. No cutting, they cliped right in and each one can lift the entier hatch all on its own. Now to replace that hatch lock cylinder...

mine were leaking oil like crazy. It was time for them to go. How were they able to rebuild the struts? I thought they were sealed units.

Don't know. I took them to a guy here in vancouver, the next day he gave them back working much better. Mine were weak but not leaking.
