Rear Hatch Shocks
#27
Okay, I feel embarrased a little. I walked into Mazdatrix TODAY (which I am happy to be able to do) and spent $94.19 on a set of 2 shocks. Wow. And after reading the above posts I'm considering your other options.

I brought this thread back to life and I'm glad I did. Even though people had talked about using the Strong Arm struts, no one had mentioned that one end of the Strong Arm strut is detachable. That was key information to anyone attempting to use the original equipment switch for the defogger.
Don't feel bad about living 40 minutes away from Mazdatrix. I'm in Kansas City and can only order off the web site. However, I do live 10 minutes from Victoria British LTD.
I did buy a pair of struts from them for $30 bucks each. They are almost identical to the factory struts minus the electronics.

I've seen it happen in the summer when the car is really hot. Its not consistent though. And since I've seen a few people mention that their strong arm struts are wearing out their attachment button, I don't think the car's hardware could withstand the force.

Okay, I have a definitive answer. For those without the rear windshield wiper, Strong Arm part number 4709 works perfectly. The rod end of the strut does in fact unscrew allowing the original switch parts to be installed. I did have to cut off the rod end of the original strut to remove the switch parts.
BTW, I paid $16.99 for each strut through Advance Auto Parts.
Now, for those with rear wipers, I can't say if the Strong Arm struts will work on the wiper side or now.
Thanks for the help!
