RB header and underhood heat...

I've had my RB header installed for a couple of months now, and it puts out a very impressive amount of heat. I figure that I would benefit from a heat sheild of some kind. What do you guys use?

Could I re-use the TR heat shield?

hmm... haven't noticed a heat increase... i could be wrong. Eventually, I would like to put some louvers on my hood... that should help some.

I just put the main section of the TR heat shield back on. Seems to do a decent job, plus it's free. I've been meaning to fab something up out of nice metal....but it keeps getting pushed down the list.

Header wrap cuts the life of exhaust components considerably. Getting the headers coated would be a better choice, but it is quite a hassle. You could probably cut the heat down reusing the tr heat shield, that is what I plan on doing today actually, after i finish my header install.

Reuse the heat shield. It might need to be reshaped a little.

Good enough. Now I can re-use my carb heater hose to help cold startup this winter.

I also re-used the stock heat shield. It required some reshaping, but it worked out fairly well. I have no issues with underhood temps.

I also used the stock heat shield. It required some minor reshaping, but works well. Underhood temps are not an issue.

You could also coat the stock sheild with a home ceramic coat kit... In fact, you can coat anything that will fit in your oven (including "powder coat"). I know a few people who have bought a used oven to put in their shop for just this purpose.. And the occasional munchies

I've used header tape for about years with no problems. I've heard people say it's not good for the exhaust, but I've used it on my old set-up and my current turbo, with no noticeable damage to any of the exhaust. Dropped the under hood temps a good 20-30 degrees.
