Question RB header pic request

I'm looking for pics of a RB road race header collector flange. This is the header that runs the pipes down to a dual pipe collector flange. I'd also like measurements of the flange, the pipe diameter and the bolt hole positions but a pic would suffice for now.

The reason I ask is I have RE street exhaust setup from around 1990 on my SA. Well, the front bullet silencer has started to disintgrate inside and its started making metallic clanging, sheet metal noises. I'm thinking I can probably swap in a new RB street port center section, as the header and the muffler are still fine. I'll be talking to RB to get measurements from that setup and see if its an easy bolt in. I think the RB flange has the center two holes opposite from the RE header flange so I may have to drill some holes to make this all work.

I too have the RE header and from my understanding, both take the same gasket on the dual outlet. Fwiw, the RE silencer is packed with fiberglass. When I cut mine apart, the glass was burnt out of the top side, it was untouched on the bottom 1/2.

Yeah I knew they took the same gasket but for some reason I think the RB flange is mirrored/flipped about the X axis so the two bolt holes in the middle won't match up between them.

If mine has fiberglass in it then theres a peice of metal in there as well. I can shake it and it clangs around. I'll find out when I pull it. Runs fine for now just has an annoying metallic clanging noise at idle.

Thanks. Still looking for pics of the RB Road Race flange showing the bolts holes.

Yeah, I'm thinking that between the headers, the flange is flipped upside down. That may have been a marketing decision so the parts from the header back weren't interchangeable. I don't remember if the 4 outer holes have a symmetrical rectangular pattern or not. If they don't, you may need to reuse the flange off of the bullet for the header back piping. Doesn't RB sell that flange separately? If so, buy one and weld it on the new piping or cut off and flip it if you're going with the RB header back system.

I've got the RB single-pipe header/presilencer for my SA... and the pre- is packed with heavy-guage steel wool from what I can see thru the openings. Had this one about 6 years IIRC; it's got about 2 years actual service on it.

Kent, need to see a pic attached to the header as that will answer my question easily.

Trochoid, exactly my thought, they flipped it so you couldn't shop the parts separately between RB and RE. After all they were direct competitors in the day.

The RE bullets lasted almost 20 years with more than half of that as a DD. I got my moneys worth. I'll probably see if I can salvage them for another project I'm contemplating for next year. Waste not want not

Yeah. I know you needed to see it attached, but I posted that in case you needed another flange.

I can't help as I have the single outlet version.

If you can't get a pic here, try to dig through the classified section (1st gen and 2nd gen) and maybe you'll get lucky and find a pic that shows the flange. However, most pics are from the side or top, so the bolt pattern on the flange usually isn't easily seen.

Thanks Kent. I did a search and found a pic. The second picture is close to what I want. It may be enough. Now I need to get under the car and take a look.

I'll try to get over to RB today or tomorrow, and get a cell phone pic for you. Their place is less than a mile from my office; I think they have one on display in their show room.

Or, you could just call and ask them if the top center hole is shifted left, or right, when viewed from the outlet end. No reason why they'd not tell you - - they are good folks over there.

I installed a brand new RB road race header last year and discovered the outlet flange was upside down/flipped around. In other words, the two middle holes were offset from the center section and all other road race headers I've ever seen. I had to pull it and carefully drill two new precise holes. That was a grumble grumble day. It only took about an hour to correct but a mistake on thier part shouldn't have happened.

It was indeed a real RB header, complete with chrome plating, the 'RB' cut into the engine flange, purchased from RB only days before etc.

This oughta help:

They didn't have one on display, but were happy to pull one out of stock and unbox it, so I could take the shots.

Talking to the counter guy, he said they actually had a problem with them being welded-up backwards at one time, and have since made changes to their build process to prevent this from happening.

I also snagged a couple sevenstock calendars, and some posters, so it wans't a "wasted" trip for me.

I looked at my headers and the middle holes are indeed opposite from the RB flange. If I go with a RB center section I'll have to drill some holes in the header or in the center section flange to get it bolted up.

Thanks for the pics guys. Helped a lot.
