Fumes inside the car? If you have an exhaust leak or any kind of opening in the rear of the car, you'll get nasty fumes inside. When I took the broken mazda badge off of the back of my car it left 2 small mounting holes exposed, and that was enough for all kinds of exhaust to get sucked into my cabin.

Aside from that, if you're going to do exhaust mods you might as well go all out. Getting the muffler alone won't get the best sound, since the RB muffler is designed to work with the presilencer that comes with the full exhaust. Not to mention the headers are going to get you a lot more power. If you already have a bad cat, emissions won't be much of a problem either.

Blake is showing us the long-primary street-port exhaust system. Anyone know how it compares sound & performace wise to the high performance exhaust system? My app is also GSL-SE. Would it matter that you had a stock engine?

that long primary gives you a bit more low-end power, but i think the high-end yield is the same. if you got the cash, get the long primary, otherwise get the normal high performance system (my choice, also being a poor high-schooler, it sucks)

Sell the exhaust system and give me a refund! Somehow you have enough money to buy this, among other things....and you dont have enough money to give me a refund for something you never sent me.

wait, what??? So the catalytic converter doesn't go on the car at ALL once the RB exhaust system is on?

That is illegal in Virginia, right?

No rb exhaust is legal in california. wtf? No cats = Illegal everywhere in the US. even if your state doesn't check for emissions its still technically illegal to remove the oem cats or even replace them without the adequate paperwork.

i could be wrong here, but i think the 79s didnt even have cats... they just had a thermal reactor. i could be WAY off base here but thats what i remember.

and about the classics, in minnesota i think its gotta be on the state's special "classic car" list, or else you have to do some special paperwork and get it verified as a classic. you could look into it especially since it is over 25 years old.


edit: yeah if this site is right, they added the cat in 81. So you're in the clear

What would you guys recommend for my 85 GSL-SE? I'm setting it up for AutoX, CSP class. I'm just looking for the best exhaust set-up for a non-ported gsl-se.

I like to say dont be suprised when you get your RB exaust and you open it up and see how pretty it is in the livingroom that you may not want to put it on the car. When you put it on the car you will never regret it. The sound is excellent.

That's the same one I have.... your center section came silver from RB? I love how mismatched the colors of the RB Systems are... bling bling chrome header, my center section was black (but has since turned to silverish), and a black muffler, with bling bling chrome tips... RB makes me laugh sometimes.... but then again, maybe it's the fumes......ooohh...pretty colors...

lol, i wanted to hang my header on my bedroom wall when i got it! It was so cool. But i must admit, its better on the car.

well in my case, (79) it would've connected right to the heat exchanger. I think it bolts up to the cats in later models though. It is possible to just hook up the header, but it sounds a lot better with the presilencer.
