Just wondering what you guys think of the RB "1984-85 RX-7 High Performance Exhaust System"(for the 12A). How were the gains and how does it sound? Im curious cuz im not sure if i want to go with the RB header straight piped into a aftermarket muffler or if i should shell out the 600+ dollars for the full system. Anyways just wanna get some outside opinions on GSL exhaust systems.

It's a good system and worth every penny. I have the 13B long-primary streetport exhaust on my GSL-SE. However, before it was on my GSL-SE, I used it on my 12A-powered 83 GS. How? Well, the difference between a 12A and 13B is just 10mm on centers between the exhaust ports...that's 5mm per side. I just ovaled the bolt holes and bolted it on the 12A. The 12A exhaust ports are small enough that they still line up inside the 13B header primaries. Obviously, such large primaries on a 12A is not optimal, but it still worked very well. I only mention this because, like me, you may have plans to swap in a 13B or find yourself a GSL-SE some day. In that case, having a 13B exhaust may have its advantages when you step up to 13B power. It's impossible to get your money back out of an exhaust when you go to sell the car...so take it off the old car and use it on the new one, then replace the stock exhaust on the 12A. A 12A exhaust is much harder to use on a 13B (I've done that too!), than vice versa. Anyway, just food for thought.

Got the full RB system. Love it. Butt dyno says "WHOOOHOOO".

 

FULL RB exhaust. It's EXTREMLY noticable of a difference if you are going from an orginal / stock exhaust system. Worth every penny both times on my 1st and 2nd gen.

 

I just bought a full RB exhaust system. I had considered the one you're talking about, but I decided that because of my plans for future upgrades (you and I and everyone here knows you aren't going to just stop with exhaust) I went with the full streetport exhaust.

It's the ****. End of story. Yeah, it was $800 plus shipping, but it's worth it.

 

it's known to increase Hp by 22% at 7k rpm, true? any other benefits?

 

Um, it sounds ******* great? I don't know about 22% but basically RB exhaust is what should have come on the car stock. My stock exhaust was really stifling the car after 6k. An added bonus is that you can start getting high off exhaust fumes at stoplights.

 

Damn those "laws". eh? Emissions? Who needs 'em?

 

Get the street port system.

I got the same one you're talkin about, standard port 12a. Yeah its alot of money, but the response is sweet. I believe that "22% at 7k" thing. You dont get 22% more peak power, but the power carries through much higher.

Plus it comes with the block off plates for the air control valve, so it makes it real simple to get rid of the air pump and everything while youre in there.

Oh yea one more question. Does the system come with all required hardware and gaskets? or will i have to order them seperatly

 

There will be one section of pipe that you will need to re-use or purchase separately. This is the section between the presilencer and the muffler. I picked up a new one locally for about 60 bucks.

 

yep, mine came with all the gaskets and hardware. Its real easy to install too (once you get the old one off, that its)

I havn't upgraded from stock since it was bought, but it's been taking care of very well by my father. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but something in my exhaust (maybe cat converter?) is making some killer fumes and its pretty bad. no bad smoke, just fumes. Help!!! Besides maybe the cat converter being a problem, most of my setup isn't bad, but i definately wouldn't mind a better sounding exhaust. Should I just go ahead and get the RB exhaust system or just muffler?
