racing beat exhaust on 79 mounting question
Hey guys,
I am in the process of mounting my racing beat dual streetport exhaust on my 79 GS,and I have a question.I was trying to mount the l-bracket on the exhaust from the tranny mount, and I am having some issues.Does this mount require the use of a rubber isolator,or is it just rigidly mounted? It seems as though the l bracket is about 1/2-3/4 of an inch from the mount on the tranny, and I am reluctant to tighten it,and risk snapping the tranny mount off of the cast aluminum transmission tailshaft. The instructions form racing beat are not the greatest, and I didn't use the tranny mount on my 83 because the mount on the tranny was missing or rotted away on the 83.I always worried about not having the tranny mount for the exhasut on the 83 because the exhaust was un-mounted from the engine to the rear of the center section of the exhaust.Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris-
The OEM mount is hard mounted between the tranny/exhaust on the stock system, so I would assume its the same with the RB system. Have you talked to RB or whereever you got the RB exhaust to see what they say you need? Be curious to know myself since I plan to put my RB system in my SA this spring too!
I would think it would be good to have some sort of support there so the whole exhaust isn't just hanging on the rubber iso mounts at the rear end and the header up front!

I have a 79 sa and put the headers and dual exhaust with presilencers all the way back plus muffler all from racing beat, and i had problems with my mounts almost every where. the mid sections i ended up putting them start against the tranny, i made a bracket to fit. i figured headers are hard mounted on the motor and the tranny is too so the exhaust wont hurt. then the muffler would not completly meet up to the other mounts with the new rubber donuts so i used a peice of stainless steel about two inches long and a inch wide to extend the bracket down (just on the mount over the axle ther others were not that tight ) to take some pressure of the donut. all cars are going to be a little different and it might take somthing else to get it down, depending on ability ad material and know how but simple brackets worked fine for me and it looks sweet and hangsright so making those few brackets helped alot and will keep those donuts from busting so fast. well hope this helped some good luck robert
