Quietest Fuel Pump
#26
And whether the fuel system is injected with a return line (like mine) or carbureted without one, it's generally a good idea to have a secondary filter upstream of the pump. This filter will collect contaminants, and when you turn off the engine, depending on the routing of your system, some of those contaminants can wash back down into the pump.
Also, most carbs have some sort of inlet screen or filter, so the larger contaminants won't get in there as you're suggesting.

Proper mounting is the key. Look at how well the original factory pump was mounted, and look at how quiet it was.
Just placing rubber between the pump and the chassis will not isolate noise and vibration, because the bolts will transmit the noise. For true noise and vibration isolation, the bolts must be completely rubber isolated from the pump and from the chassis - there cannot be any metal to metal touching anywhere - bolt to pump, bolt to chassis, nor nuts or washers to chassis.

The key is to make a rubber sandwich, lol!.

Is Walbro a gerotor type pump? When it was on the GLC for the EFI project it was plenty quiet enough for me. It's the inline style. I couldn't understand why so many people wear recommending the in-tank type when the inline was so quiet without the engine running and inaudible with it running. The exhaust pretty mellow at the time, too.
The Walbro was installed with the standard black foam sleeve and rubberized clamps. The clamps were bolted to a spare Carter L bracket and three rubber standoffs, which were bolted to the rear hatch floor area.
This is very interesting to me considering when the Carter was in there, in the same position (that's where the L bracket came from), it was ungodly noisy. Disturbingly so. So I do understand how noisy a Carter can get, but the Walbro was whisper quiet, as is the Carter in my FB.

I have a mallory on order. I have my holly red already with rubber o-rings btween the pump and the frame....still loud. There is also rubber betwn the mount and the pump. Loud as F... As for the check valve... i t was originally intended to stop fuel flow if the car was rolled over i believe. It has nothing to do with clean fuel. Mine has been removed..
