I am in the process of rebuilding my carb and I found this to be unhooked as I pulled out the carb. What is it and should it be hooked anywhere?

I also somehow happened to break one of these puppies:

As you can tell, I tried patching it up. Would this pose any problems?

thats the a/c/idle compensator. basically, it acts as a bypass air control valve or a stepper motor. when the a/c is turned on, it increases the idle to compensate for the loss in power due to the a/c. if the solenoid valve for it is bad and its unhooked, you should ave no problems. that is until you switch on your a/c.

Yep, what he said.... If you live in an area that does not require emissions testing then you might want to consider removing the rat's nest (see FAQ for details). This will really clean up your engine and remove a lot of items that have the potential to cause issues either now or sometime down the road.....
