Quick exhaust question

Alright, A couple monthes ago, I bought a 85 GSL-SE, and now that winters come in WI, I want to start upgrading it, since I can't drive it until march anyway.

My car is 100% stock right now and I've heard the exhaust is the best place to start. Not wanting it too loud, I've been looking at the racing beat systems. Because there a little expensive, I decieded to look around for a used system and save a few bucks.

I found one in the classifyed second of this site, but I don't know for sure if it will fit by just bolting it on, or if it will need some modification.

It is installed in a 81 right now, but with a 74-78 13B streetported engine in it. The racing beat site has a different system for the GSL-SE and the other 13Bs, so I don't know if this system would bolt right on. I know almost nothing about cars, and I would like to try to put it on myself.

There it is, again, I have a 85 GSL-SE. So, do you think it would be worth it?

Thanks.

The GSL-SE models from Racing Beat all include the model-specific attachments that allow the following features;

1) '6'-port actuating tube which runs from the presilencer back up to the ACV, and which provides the backpressure signal to power the '6'-port actuators (which operate at 1.6-2.4psi ~ 3800 rpm),

2) mounting points for the GSL-SE undercarriage, including rubber donut hanger points and tailpipe lengths, and

3) mounting point in the header assembly for your O2 sensor, require to run closed-loop fuel injection patterns using the sensor to adapt the fuel flow to maintain best Air/Fuel mixture (14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel) - this is important to an EFI system.

These 2 considerations mean that if it's currently mounted on an 81 13b conversion, it will NOT work on your GSL-SE without some other modifications to actuate the '6'-ports via airpump, electric solenoid, or some other pressure source. This does not come without it's own hassles.

For the money, I went with the Mazdatrix sold RB header and presilencer which has all the correct mounting points, O2 sensor location, and everything needed to bolt up to a GSL-SE. You could make this other system work, but you'd need to do a lot more than spin a few wrenches to get it running correctly.

Do a quick search on '6'-port induction (specific only to the GSL-SE in 1st Gen's) and take a look at some of that information. Good luck,

This would bolt up to the standard mounts and flange.

Thanks for the responses.

Hmm, I could go with a RB header/presilencer and use the catback that bruceman is selling.

Does that sound like a good idea?

Thanks.
