But let's not count my chickens before they're hatched. I don't even have the car yet. However,I am going to go and look at it today. Yay!

if you guys are even remotely worrying about emissions here, mix and matching the manifolds has got one BIG problem.
Remember that the port air was moved from under the primaries on the SE to under the secondaries on the S4. No port air, means no passing emissions period.
Personally, I think doing a swap when you allready know your going to have problems in the future (miss matched ports, LOL)is just wrong. If you are going to do the swap, do it right.

I agree, I just wanted to know this type of stuff, which is why I asked before attempting. The car is not going to be rigged in any way, I just wont do stuff that way. The -SE engine only has a bad coolant seal, it was not "blown". So rebuilding that is not out of the question, as Im sure the parts will still be usable and in spec. A rebuild with some higher CR rotors and some mods would make for a decently quick -SE

my vote is for rebuilding the SE motor. If you are on a budget and you're worried about reliability, smog and such... either go all the way and use an 89 motor or just stay with the GLS-SE motor. Not worth the trouble for a few extra horsepower that can be gained elsewhere (ie: headers and RB exhaust system).
Here's another factor...Can you rebuild the motor yourself?
