thanks for the clarification 7aull! so for FBs FACTORY MAZDA JAPAN had ONLY MADE ONE TYPE OF SPOILER, a rubber like material (urethane) ONE (1) piece. i appologize for the caps. i just wanted to emphasize one last time to all the hardcore original factory mazda, such as me, what factory mazda had originally made for the FBs.
i imagine finding an original w/original paint will be very very pricy.. so the next question is: is/are there any way(s) of proving a spoiler for the FB is factory original? i have never seen one in person or have much info on factory mazda spoiler. any responce would be greatly appreciated! i just have a craze to know all about factory mazda products for the FBs..

Some of us are collectors, not modifiers. We don't want anything not original on our cars. Other people may go for what they personally like, which is fine, but others want a restored original, completely unmodified.

Hi Whanrow-
easy way to tell an OEM factory spoiler:
they will have this mounting hardware attached underneath: specifically,
-7 threaded bolts anchored into the rubber across the rear that uses a 10mm nut to attach, and
-5 metal slots imbedded in the rubber that accept the special plugs that in turn insert into the car body.
-holes on the leading tips of the spoiler that mount to the body with a self-taping screw
And don't worry about paint - these are UNPAINTED, natural rubber. There is a kind of plastic-y finish to them, which usually develops tiny cracks due to exposure to UV. Only visible if you look closely unless the spoiler has really been cooked...
Again, I will state that the F-A-C-T-O-R-Y ONLY sold the rubber 1-piece spoiler, as illustrated on page 40 of the Mazda RX7 81-83 Parts Manual (Body Section):
Spoiler Assy PN: FA16-51-960B
Good luck on your search-

From the Dealer
I ordered this car new from the dealer. I picked out from the factory catalog a spoiler front air dam and widow louvers. The air dam is fiberglass the spoiler is one piece some type of plastic and the key to the window louvers says MAZDA scribed right on it. When I picked it up they were installed by the dealer and painted to match.

No Factory spoiler was offered by Mazda for the 1979-80 SA like yours. I have the 1979-80 OEM parts book - no spoilers (even the rubber ones) listed. Likewise the Louvers. Your fibreglass rig is a US Mazda Dealers accessory, likely out of a US Mazda Distributor catalogue... BTW, nice looking car! - love the blue color. You bought it new? Lucky man!
