Question?new comer to rotaryengine.
hello everyone, i m new to rotary n i know the basics about rotary & i just brough a 81 GSL widebody off somebody,, and he also had no idea about the car because a friend gave it to him for a payment. anyways first thing i brought the hayne's manuel n read it(skim) and also read FAQ. my car has 180k on chasis but i also drove it around the parking lot, it starts idles high around 2k @ the beginnig then when it gets to normal temp, it back fires n then it dies n idle drops if i don't rev it. I looked at the carburator n it didn't look exactly like the one on the manual. I had a friend that know a little about carburator to help me adjust the idle but it keeps dying. So if anybody can help me identify a possiblilty of what the problem is. I can take pics or give out more info to help me solve the problem.THANKX

there are some real good carb experts on here.
also. check out the FAQ sticky on the site to answer any of your basic questions about the car.
and you should aslo do some basic mantinace, change the spark plugs, new fuel filter, oil change, ect.

Before you even think about messing with idle and mixture settings, do youself a favor and make sure things like plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter are up to snuff. Then check every vacuum hose and other vacuum leak point. Check timing. If all those are ok, then consider starting to try to adjust carb settings.
