OH question on frame rail & cross member

from Rxspeedfast here in kettering Ohio. Black 84 GSL-SE

does anyone know by experience or inspection, is the 84 & 85 RX7 GSL-SE frame rail and cross member the same as an 84-85 RX7 frame rail and cross member or the same as an 81-83 RX7 frame rail and cross member?

i want to cut off 12 inches of my frame rail and six inches of my cross member
and replace with the same 12 inches frame rail and six inches of the cross member from an equal or same frame rail and cross member parts car.

i would use inner tube supports before welding

i myself have no experience with these matters so i call upon members for their help

All the 81-85 frame rails are the same All 81-85 cross members are the same with the exception of the 84-85 GSL-SE.

I have to ask, why cut the frame rails? The only time that the frame rails needs to be cut would be because of damage and then they should only be replaced at the factory seam location.

OH Thank you on info on frame rail and crossmember

Dear KansasCityRepu,

Thank you for your very quick, experienced, and precise help on this matter.

Let me try to be as clear as possible. It was discovered last December that the passenger side tow ring plate was damaged and the driver side tow ring plate was deliberately bent back. There is a dent to the frame rail in the area surrounding the passenger side tow ring plate. It is beyond me to fix the dent. So the next approach to the frame rail is cut out the damaged frame rail and replace it with an equal and same frame rail.

I must tell you I am not aware of where the seam is on the frame rail on the GSL-SE. Please indicate to me where the seam is on the frame rail.

Any advice you give me is welcome that is for sure. I will follow your advice to the letter since I do not know one thing about frame rails and cross members. I would like to do this job correctly. Thank you KansasCityRepu. Rxspeedfast
