Question Question about fender mounted mirrors

Can anyone tell me or show me a picture of what the JDM style mirrors look like that are mounted on the fenders overseas. I love that look and want to do that to mine since i need mirrors anyway, i know they wont be very useful but i am doing it for the look. also i am trying to find out exactly where to mount them. ( i have a few pics but if anyone knew exactly that would be helpful.

those pictures are extremely helpful, thank you. After doing some research i see why a lot of peeps are not doing this. the real Savannah style ones are like 350.00 bucks on Ebay. there has to be an alternative that is less expensive. is it not possible to use the stock mirrors and just mount them there or are they too short and don't stick out far enough? anyone on the site find a better method?

well, i will look into those but if i had a choice i would rather have black ones (plastic) to give it a more stock appearance. the chrome stuff is reserved for austin healey's and MG's in my opinion. thank you though.

You would be surprised how much better they actually are than door mounted mirrors. I have some on my 280ZX and they have slightly curved glass which actually lets you see more. I have no blind spot on my 280 now. And you don't have to take your eyes off the road as much to see the mirror. I love them.

And they will gut any pedestrian you may hit like a trout... that being why you don't see them so much these days.

Don't get me wrong, I kinda like that look... butthey also look to be a major PITA when working in the engine compartment.

They are a major PITA when working on the engine that is why thre are many that are broken, they aren't too bad to see out of though and if you don't want the right ones go after some 240sx ones they usually go for about 200 and are decent quality and look right on a 7

The 2 biggest down sides to the fender mirrors are working in the engine bay and getting them adjusted. You have to get in and out of the car until you get them right unless you have someone to help you. Some actually lock the lens once its adjusted but the ones on my 280 don't and I've watched people bump into them and not care. You will get some many compliments though. lol. I have people young and old compliment my car everywhere.

You need to add some bracing to the fender or they will eventually tear out, IIRC the jdm fender has a pretty decent chunk of bracing behind the mirror mount. I used the standard door mount mirrors on the fenders of an old car of mine, and they were great after gusseting the inside of the fender.

that sounds cool. do you have any pictures of the finished product? I even thought about making a custom spacer for the stock ones to get them closer to the length of the savannah's. but if yours work i could pull off the same look quiet cheaply. please let me know.

I don't have any pictures, this was almost 10 years ago. I do remember they were the electric adjusting ones, I had planned to extend the harness and wire them up so I could adjust them from the cockpit. If you mark where you want the mirror on the fender and drill the bolt holes it is easy to see where bracing needs to be applied on the inside.

I really dont get the attraction to those mirrors . I cant see the intial launch of the RX7 in NA being as successful as it was if they had those fender mounted appendages.

Because in some respects you can get a larger mirror to fit on the fender. Also with the viewing angle, you have less of a blind spot.

I would seriously sport some of these on my FB Racer if it wasn't such a pain in the *** to work under the hood.

My wife's Supra will be getting a set however!

I love fender mounted mirrors. The reason we didn't get them is because of pedestrian safety laws. When I was deciding on mirrors to replace the nasty Camero mirrors that some bastard put on my car, I decided against them since they're tecnically illegal in all 50 states. I don't need yet another reason for the man to pull me over.
