Question 2 of 5 Rat's Nest

I think my previous thread contained too many pictures because I never got an answer for all of the questions about what to plug or leave open. So, I am posting the pictures in individual threads.

This is thread 2 of 5

What should be done with this large inlet on the side of the Air Vent Solenoid Valve?

I think I left that open, but I left the vacuum tube hanging down so that when i washed the motor off, I didnt spray water up into it... That one I really cant remember, but I think this is what I did?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think that one has to be hooked up to the air cleaner or your carb will flood. I had this done but my hose was bent and the carb was flooding after I drove it and shut it off.
Fixed the hose and now its fine.

It should be left open to continue venting. It allow the carb to blah blah blah yadi yadi yada so leave it open, was the answer given to me when I answered. I'm pretty sure it only goes one way, but if I was washing my engine I might think about plugging it temporarily to prevent water from reaching ther inside too.

I finally got it running this morning. Apparently, all of the rough running after the header install fouled the plugs pretty badly.

I installed my vacuum hoses so that I kept the a/c solenoid valve and the orange solenoid as well.

After deeply studying the manuals (I have both Chiltons and Haynes) and cross-checking with the maze of piping from the removed rat's nest I saw that ony the EGR valve is rendered totally useless by removing the air pump and ACV.

So, for the opening at the side of the air vent solenoid (2 of 5) I routed a hose from it to a tee that then connected the hose to the engine ventilation opening (4 of 5). The other side of the tee connected a hose to the top of the air cleaner lid (charcoal).

Now both fuel vapors and crankcase gases can be handled in the intended manner and no worries about condensation.

What year.model do you have? Only the '80 California model should have an EGR valve.

That nipple should be connected to a nipple on the filtered side of the air cleaner.
