Red face Purchasing aftermarket steering wheel and quick release (help)

I have a '85 GSL-SE and am purchasing a MOMO competition wheel (350mm) and hub for it. My question is this: should I purchase a quick release for it as well? I've heard that getting a spacer or extension helps keep the gauges in view when using a smaller wheel. I could just purchase a QR and not have to worry about it I suppose if the aforementioned is true. I am 6'0" and about 220, so I need all the help I can get entering and exiting the FB, haha.

On the note of quick release hubs; anyone ever heard bad or good about the K-Sport ones? I know they're considerably cheaper than the MOMO and like units, but I have never had bad experience with K-Sport.

Thanks for any help guys.

If I'm not mistaken the stock steering wheel size is 14 inches, which is 350mm. I would be wrong though, someone please correct me if so. That would give the the same visibility. Changing the steering wheel is very easy though. I would suggest simply installing the steering wheel with the parts you already have. Then if you have clearance issues take it from there. I don't see how extensions would help your visibility though. If you are having issues getting in and out I have heard about taller people going with a smaller steering wheel. They say it helps. I don't have issues though, I'm 5'8".

I'll go ahead and be the first to correct myself, it seems that stock is 15" so the one you are looking is a little smaller. I would just try it out. Mine is 13". I do have some issues seeing the tach/speedo but it is worth it for the better wheel.

I can post up this week.

I just purchased a MOMO Tuner Wheel, MOMO hub, MOMO Combat Evo Shifter...and the NRG Quick Release hub.

I need to pick up the parts and probably do the install later this week.

I am not as big as you..im more a fat ***...5'10 around 240 so I need the extra room to get in and out as well. But here is the best reason...at least for me...SECURITY. I have the same car as you...85 SE and I have already had a break in attempt. Some jackass pried off my driver side door lock trying to get into the car. Here is my thinking...I already have a great ignition cut off and hidden very well. Once I lock the car, flip the ignition kill...and take the wheel off every night...then whoever wants my car has to tow it...and if you are going to do all that..take it.

I will post pics and such when I get my stuff installed.

Awesome. I'm gonna look into the NRG hub as well. I like the thought of the security as well as making it easier to get in and out. Thanks for the replies so far. I will probably order all my stuff tonight and get it all on after Christmas sometime. Keep the posts coming!
