I just purchased a 1982 ( i believe it is) RX7. It was going to be used for a drag car. It was stilling behind my neighbors garage for about 4 years. Is there any advise that anyone could give me befor i try to crank it. I know that i should replace all the fluids, that is if there are any left in the car. I do not know what was done because the guy i bought it from was just storing it for the owner. the owner was the one trying to make it a drag car. I was told that when it was parked that the motor, trans, and rear diff were all in good condition. Any help or steps that i might need to follow would be greatly appriciated. by the way I only paid $100 for it, I will post pics when i get back in town next week.

lube the inside first before start-up
get a vinegar squirt bottle and use a lubricant of some sort, and remove plug a give shot of lube(someone will chime in with what to use) into the sparkplug holes..not starting the engine ,but turning the engine over a bit at a time with a breaker bar with a deepsocket..( I WOULD GIVE IT A DAY) this will lube up the inside and give the lube a chance to work on the apex seals to free them up ...start -up will be a smoke show but at least you know that the internals have a bit of a chance of survival after sitting for a lengthy amount of time..MY METHOD ..OTHERS WILL FLAME ME IF THIS IS INCORRECT.

a car that has sat that long might have water in the fuel issues...there isn't really any good way to start a car that has sat that long unused...the worst thing for any car is to sit undriven...new or old...my suggestion is to use some starter fluid and just let it idle away for about 10-15 minutes without reving or anything just sometime to get the car back into the working order...then just take your time going anywhere again as the car will need time to work through things

Well......this will not be as easy as i imagined. I will have to find most of the interior parts, recarpet the floor, find a dash board, and gauges, pretty much all of the interior. Dam I thought it would be easy, but not as easy as i thought.

I thought this was going to be a drag car? Why carpet, dash, etc. then? Just curious. If you are trying to build a daily driver, you might be better off finding a different car to use as a base. Just keep the drivetrain from the one you have now as a spare. Just a thought, because otherwise you're going to be looking for a lot of parts and you'll have to go through the trouble of installing, wiring, etc....

hahah, who needs any of that, get yourself a guage cluster and a few pillows and giver. lol. Once you get that engine started, there will be no worries. I picked up my RX-7 about 3 years ago now its come along way, although it came with an interior, it was prety beat down, but as soon as I drove it I was hooked. I have slowly worked it over since I bought it, which is really turning into an obsession now, but my point is: if you enjoy it and are ok to work on it yourself, do it because it will be much more rewarding than just buying a new car. Hope you enjoy your experience with these little jammin cars lol.
