Proper Radiator storing/LSD question
I was not aware of this, but did anyone else know that non-LSD 1st gen's with drums didn't have rear-anti-sway bars. Well, at least the one I just bought. Its a '84 GS(76900orginal miles). It appears to have never had one though. I could see where the holes for the bracket that are for were the end-links would be if it had them. And on the rear end axle itself were it would connect.
I'm converting over to a LSD rear end BTW, is there any hick-ups I should know about when doing this, I never done it, but it is probably straight foward enough since I've messed with every other thing on the car, however, are the parking brake cables any different or is there any diffculties that I may incounter?
Finally, if a radiator is not going to be used in a car for a while, what is the best way to assure it will be clean and rust/corrision free when I do use it again? Do I just need to clean it out with water and soap/etc?

Not sure on the rad.
as for the GSL rear, I am planning on doing this swap this winter, everything I've read says that the e-brake cable from the handle back is the same, but the two cables that go from that y looking thing on the underside of the car to the brakes themselves are different. I got mine with the rear end so if you didn't I guess you could buy new ones somewhere. Also, don't forget to change the master cylinder, the drum and disk ones are different. Other than that its basically just a bolt on type swap.

My non-lsd '79 GS has an anti-sway bar on the back... maybe the previous owner took yours off, and painted the underbody after or something.... I'm pretty sure they're stock on ALL RX-7's...

Wow! I thought they were on all Rx-7's also. The previous owner said nothing about it??
Also, 82transam, I you sure about that mastercylinder drum/disc incompatable? I do have a spare mastercylinder from a GSL car, but fail to see how they are different. Anyone else can back this up or confirm this?

Externally, they may appear the same, but the bore and stroke may be different... I know the proportioning valves ARE different, I'll look up in my shop's computer tomorrow if the master cylinders are in fact different. One note though, Rear calipers will require more fluid volume to move than rear wheel cylinders.
On the radiator, flush it well with water, soap optional... Then dry it well... Run compressed air through it or just stick a hair dryer to one side... Blow it out a while. Stuff rags in the pipe ends to keep the rodents out and you should be good. Store it indoors in a box if you can. Flush it again when you re-use it.

Thanks Pele on the radiator advice!
I do happen to have the extra master clyinder and I think a extra perportening valve, but I need a rebuild kit for the master cylinder I think which is why I wasn't using it if I remember.
Also I did ask the previous owner and said the rear sway bar was taken off by him because he used to rally the car and it didn't oversteer as bad then. Said he got that advice from this furum!

Everything I've read says that the master cylinder is different. I've heard horror stories of guys not swapping them and having the rear end lock up on them before the front under heavy braking and causing them to wreck. If you have the master you might as well put it in and save yourself the headache later.
