Choke working? Maybe you should give a run down of what you have. That may help people figure it out. From what I know:

- Holley carb
- recently rebuilt streetport
- 2GCDFIS w/ TT

Anything esle? Maybe flooding while sitting?

i got a streetported 12a with 465cfm holley streetported intake and headers from RB with full rb hiperf exhaust. its got 2GCDFIS w TT (thanks to kent), brand new rebuild by rotorsports, no rats nest, no vac leaks, 91 alt, 2nd gen plugs and wires with fuel regulator. light weight steel flywheel and street/strip clutch all from RB. RB dual pulleys with no AC. i dont think its flooding cause some times it fires but wont crank and i know its getting gas i can see it. i got the mixture right i thought. it sounded great and no smoke once its warmed up just not sure. maybe the choke i dont know much about carbs, its got the heat tranfer choke that came with it. not sure any suggestinos thanks robert

One other thing would be to check timing. I know you said you had an RB pulley, but weren't sure about the marks. If the timing is off, that can make it hard to start. Hopefully someone else will have some ideas.

well i tried moving the distributor around but it made NO different in the sound. i thought about that but i need it running to check it with a timing light right?? seems like moving the distributor would make a huge differance but i did not notice any. wondering if anyone is using the heat transfer choke or if they changed to a manual choke? thanks robert

I have a street ported 4 port 13b with a 48 IDA weber, I myself was having problems starting it in the morning. The best thing that works for me is to pump the gas peddle once before trying to start the car - once it starts I then hold the gas peddle down and keep the rpm's held to 2000-2500 until the engine warms up; which often times is about 4-5 minutes. Just be sure you don't pump the gas peddle too many times as that will just foul your spark plugs (I know this from experience). One question....when you drive off in your car in the morning - does it run really rough and make a funny exhaust noise like pop corn is shooting out of your exhaust the first couple of miles - then gradually goes away as you drive the car more?

It might be that your spark plugs are foul, take them off and see if there's anything wrong with them.

how cold is "cold" holleys really hate operating right around the freezing mark. try adjusting your choke a bit (big black **** on the front of the carb) loosen the three screws and move it a notch to the right. i think its to the right, maybe left, if you remove the air filter while doing this you can see the flapper, the more its closed the more rich your startup should be, which is a good thing.

the auto chokes on the RB carbs are pretty useless, you may want to switch to a electric or even a manual if you drive in the cold a lot.

That pop corn popping sound is your exhuast burning off excess gas which is usually when you flood the carburator. It really sounds like your carb keeps getting flooded, take out your spark plugs and check to see if there soaked with gas.

well i drove it and for the last two days its cranked no problem KNOCK ON WOOD. not sure what the problem was. i took off the dizzy cap and rotor button. started looking around and everything in there was nasty!!!! looking. so i took 1000 grit sand paper and lightly sanded the pickups and the thing that spins. and it cranked right up. i never thought it would be a problem in there but once i did that i cranks. i acctually drove it twice. also i had a small exhaust leak, i guess the metal gasket shrunk or somthing cause i tightened i one day let it run and then the next day it was loose agian. not sure what i did but im not complianing. i think the choke is a big problem too i plan on switching to eletrical or pull choke, that heat exchange choke is crap in my opinion. thanks for the help guys
thanks robert
