Project Misfortune

Well I have decided to keep my 85 RX7 and just make it a project. These will mainly be simple bolt ons but some of the thing I am putting on my car I basically testing out different things.

The name misfortune came from my own misfortune and the misfortune of this car belonging to me. Poor thing. Its name was Ashley(after my G/F who accually calls it that) but I decided since it is going under the knife it was time for a change. This car is basically going to be my track car/interstate runner from WV to NY, it is an 8 hour drive so reliablity is a main issue.

Of course the first thing anyone is going to say "if you wanted reliability you should have got a honda" well I know this. But guess what I dont care. So here are my plans for the car as of so far. So of which I have heard and seen, others I have only heard about so they may be stickty fiction.

T2 seats
My custom under axle true dual exhast
RB intake
Edelbrook carb
Holley blue pump with reg
remve emissions
FC radiator
FC oil cooler
Disk brakes on all four coners
Fully adjustable suspension
4pnt cage
Carbon Fiber components(including driveshaft)
Wide body flares

Basically you get the Idea.

I get paid every 2 weeks so something new should go on the car every 2 weeks excluding some of the things I may fab up myself. I hope this will not be a failure like some of my other projects.

As I start to put things on the car I will take pics every step of the way. Seeing how these are some of the more popular mods and some people are having a hard time finding picture references on how to do things the right way. But I am unsure of some of the things I am doing also. I will post questions on this thread if I can as to not polute the forums with a barage of questions.

So here it is the Misfortune. The piant is showing its age. But it will be repainted with a 400r blue from nissan. And I am looking for any ideas as of what to do with the body as of yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Most of you have already seen the pictures and the video of the car running.

WEll my first update. Earlier to day I put on Accel Super Stock coils. I will have those pics up in the morning hopefully. Talking about an upgrade worth the money. The $40 I spent on the 2 coils is well worth it. The car starts and revs more easily and also I am feeling a slight increase in power. I may go further in the future and upgrade to the MSD coils which are 56k volts I am pretty sure. I will also be buying MSD cut to Fit 8.8 wires or Taylor 10mm wires. These way seem like over kill but I am running them on a chevette with awsome sucess.

I will be giving my opinions on each product I try and give a report on the butt dyno until the chassis dyno is back up and running.

Son bitch first problem so far. I am mounting the T2 seats and the drivers side went right in. Ya but the passenger side is wierd i searched and found out you have to modify the bracket. But no one says what kind of modification. This sucks alot. Oh well back to work.

Ok well I have been reseaching the unmentionables again. Wheels that is. I cannot find a set I like so I may go with adapters. I am looking into getting a used set of GTr wheels , well because they are 8in wide and can fit under a FC. Now that I am driving the FB my question this time is with the adapters would these wheels still fit. Because stock fc wheels fit with the adapters with some room to spare. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks alot guys. And no more making fun of its old or new name please thank you. I was very serious about it.

I you want some good wires, I have Custom Fit Accel Thundersport 300+ 8.8mm...
They rock!
They were in the car for less than a week (until I rolled it)...

Still in the box, with the wire seperators and all... $15 plus shipping...

BTW, I love the SuperStock coil too... highly underated by most people...

Sounds like a good project...

BTW, where you getting the CF driveshaft?

And I don't think you'll get 8" rims in the front unless you go with fender flares...

Hmm i will get back to you on those wires. That is a hella deal man. I just have to wait until payday in 2 weeks. I spent $300 on my car in one day. That was half my paycheck. Oh well its going to a good cause.

I am not sure but i think up front the rins a 7in not for sure Ill have to check again. As for the CF driveshaft it has to be custom made through a company I saw posted on this site. They mainly make them for large trucks and highend sports cars but have made about 100 cf driveshafts for different modlel 7s. I think the price they quoted me was 350$ I am not sure though.

Yeah... I have an Accel coil for sale too, but I guess you don't need it NOW, lol...

I won't be using the wires on my next build-up 'cause I'm going with a COP (coil on plug) setup
Otherwise I'd keep 'em... They only have 10 or so hours of driving on 'em...

Got a link for the shaft? I might look at one this spring with my build-up... Sounds super-sweet...

And 7" fits nicely in the fronts, if you can get the right offset...

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/sale...in/Driveshafts

There is the link to the the driveshaft it is $449.00

The offset for the wheels is +30 and they are 8in all the way around. Ill just put on a set of flares to make it all work out in the end.

Plus 30... you'll need some spacer/adapters to make those fit, I'd bet... unless you go coil-over... that'd help...

I was reading up on them. I havnt found a complete set that I like as of yet. The suspension is going to be a major part of this car. It needs to be stiff but also provide enough of a street car ride for a 8 hour trip.

If you have any that you would like to sugest that would be great. Like mainly all I am finding is springs and no 4 corner fully adjustable coilovers.

http://iscracing.net/suspension_2.htm

The link you posted sells gound control for all 4 corners too...

BTW, that place ROCKS!!!

Hmm thats odd I thought it was that site. Well damn which one was it then. It wasnt even a performance shop. Mainly delt with industrial type things but they are still good. A camaro has a CF shaft around here from them but ill be damned if I cant remeber the site.

Also the spacers to make fc wheel/ the GTR wheels I want pushes the wheel out 15mm I think. Not for sure Ill have to check again. I just got back from the ball game so Im all wiered out.

did you fix your seats?
the shifter-side slide rail has to be flattened so it is the same as the whole runner.

No I havnt got to do much I am trying to get ahold of a good steam clearethat way they look brand new when they go in. I will also be cleaning the carpet while it is out. And removing all the wieght I can without buthering the interior.

Also you mean the tab that is bent down that the bolt would go into the floor on the fc. I hope I am reading that right

Thanks

lol thanks I have alot of stuff just kinda sittin around. Mainly body stuff. But its been damn cold and I work all day and its really cold when I get home so i dont do much. I have paint sitting here. I have a complete new rubber kit just waiting to go on, t2 seats, edelbrok carb,rb intake, holley blue pump, fc radiator,fc oil cooler, stainless steal fuels lines, monster sterio, sub and amp, not mention the stuff I am waiting on the MIB to deliver.

I am going to try and sand the car down and hopefully get it in the booth sometime next week so I can primer and do a little body work, and hopefully I can get a fender flare kit by then. May order the front suspenion or GTR wheels with adapters week after next. Along with some damn sticky rubber.

My exhaust got ran over today. All i need to get it done was the mufflers. So I am kinda pissed right now. It looked really good. I am going to take alot of advice from my exhaust thread and apply alot of it to the next one I guess.

yes, the tab that screews into the floor is bent up so it is straight with the rail.

I didnt run over it. Some idiot at the shop I was having it made at did. My car is down there and has its own little bay right now. So I go down there after work and tinker. We were test fitting everything before we tacked them together. And got it all tacked up by the end of that day and layed it down beside the car. Come in the next day and its all crunched and bent. OMG I was pissed.
