I've found that some aftermarket cats come with the air tube capped. I suppose it's so the cat can be used on different vehicles. I also noticed your fuel supply/return tubes appear to be for an SE but I didn't notice a sump cup in the tank. I still can't believe the rust you get up there. I'd go nuts restoring parts if it was that bad down here.
Yeah the gas tank is from a 12a-based S3, but the tubes are from a GSL-SE. I'm hoping it won't make a big difference... I'll get fuel hose to match the tubes on the tank and I guess I'll just clamp them extra well on the other end where they connect to smaller metal lines going to the front.
I'm hoping the inspection folks don't mind the capped cat, we'll see what happens with that in the spring.
Anyone happen to know the size and thread pitch of the bolts for the gas tank? I know there are two long ones and two short ones, but aside from that, I don't know their sizes in order to buy replacements.
Same question for the engine mount bolts. They look almost the same as the exhaust manifold ones, but the thread pitch is completely different. I managed to lose mine so I need to source two more.
Yeah we get lots of rust up here. Even my never-winter-driven 7 has some rust on it, and you saw how the panels and tubes etc... from the engine bay looked before they were all re-done. For this car I'll undoubtedly start slow restoration of rusty parts once the car hits the road but that won't be until at least spring since I have brakes and body work to do and an interior to reassemble in the spring assuming I can do what needs to be done to get it running before snow hits.

Cats themselves must be "present and intact" for the inspection. It's technically against the law to run without them in my area I believe, unless your car did not originally come with them. The supporting systems though make no appearance on the inspection checklist, so I can pre-emptively remove those with no fear of failing inspection.
I am actually considering tossing the air pump on there with a tube to the first pre-cat's airpipe. I doubt they'll know that there's supposed to be an air control valve there (I've already passed one car through inspection without an ACV) but it would mainly be for belt tension since I'm running a mech fan and haven't gotten a dual-belt pulley for the alternator...
Yeah, serious progress indeed. It's almost a car now!
It will be funny showing up to inspection in the spring because I'm debating whether or not to bother with installing an interior for it. I may just show up with only a dash, two seats and seatbelts. No carpet, bins, door panels, etc... They aren't needed but they will sure make the inspectors look at you funny.

lol ... I've done that for my first safety. Actually I didn't even have the dash in. I had the guage cluster just hanging there and all the switches just kinda dangling there with the two seats and the seatbelts lol.
She's almost worthy to run now.

For the air tube, run it to the cat, cat may last longer that way.
Engine mounting bolts to the front cover are M10X 1.50, 3/4" shank. I believe they are grade 8 also.

we are suppose to have everythign that the care came with stock ... but no body cares down here about that so nothing really. I just had my headers, borla and magnaflow.
