2/21 Update - 50 days left
Ok I have done alot of cleaning in the shop since the last update, I just got back in from the shop now, my hands are still black lol
I am 90% done on cleaning the shop, I still have the workbench to clear, and Im going to lay down some tile on it that way oil doesnt soak into it. I knocked over the tool chest causing me to use many choice words, and thats when I called it quits for the day.
I finally touched the engine today, all I did was remove the PS pump and TMIC, and look to see how deep I just got myself in. I am gonna have to order a couple of parts but that was to be expected. Also I am going to have to do alot of cleaning to make it shine again, but I will do my best.
I will wash my hands and go take some pictures of how far its come.
BTW: Does any one know where to get a adapter plate for an engine stand so it will hold a rotary?

haha yeah, as mine stands it runs, but not extrememly well, I'm trying to get the suspension and brakes done asap so I can start ironing out the bugs... And as you saw in my thread I kinda went on a tangent redoing the trans and motor mounts, because i wasn't happy with the current setup...
I really don't want to be stuck 12 hours from home with a blown engine or turbo or something equally critical, wouldn't make for a fun trip... who knows, if I'm able to put a few thousand miles on it before then I might trust it more

Well I finally got done with the shop(at least for the moment) I installed a new light right over my freshly cleared workspace, so I can see what im doing better.
I tore into the engine and stripped it down to the short block, If I had to do it over again, while I was hanging the light I would have soaked all the bolts in nut buster, because when I started to work on it, it was more like knuckle buster.
I decided that I will be running an E-Fan, becuase after dealing with those fan bolts and breaking a fin off, I dont ever want to see that dang fan again!
Ive got alot of cleaning ahead of me!
I am also thinking of getting a serpentine belt kit for it, but Im not sure about it yet. What do you guys think?

UPDATE 2/25 - 46 days left
I started to work on stripping out the FB of all its needless parts, I have decided that wiring this bad boy is going to be the hardest part.
After several failed attempts to get the old exhaust off I had to take out the big boys to get the job done. I told the pipe if you thought rotary heat was bad, just you wait!
BTW those leafs caught fire about midway through the cut lol
I am calling it quits for tonight, but I think I might get up early and go pick up some wire brushes and start cleaning the engine.

Looks like your making progress, don't fear the wiring, its a big job, but not super difficult, just read over as many wiring diagrams as possible, and make copies of them so you can make marks on them, like crossing out things you don't need and highlighting what you do need, something like that. Then its just the task of making the harness and making it look neat....

I just wanna say, if someone made a plug and play wiring swap for the TII into an FB they would have NO PROBLEM selling it,
My brain is fried right now after looking at so many diagrams of this and that. Its making my head spin.
I would pay TOP DOLLAR for a wiring kit.

Update 2/27 - 44 Days Left
Tonight I tried to tackle the wiring nightmare I am facing, I found out that I have a hacked up wiring harness, one which I bought and was told it was a complete harness, but I guess thats how the world turns.
If I keep running into major problems, I will just get a Haltech E6X and go from there, that will save me a lot of headache and I can start to focus more on the rest of the build. As for tuning it, I live about 90 miles south of Gotham Racing, and can get Steve Kan to tune it, if needed, but since I will be running it stock for deals gap, I can just flash it with the stock maps.
If I go that route it will cut into most of my funds that I have been saving for other needed parts, but I think I can recoup some back with the sale of the Rtek 1.7, and other parts I have.
I am waiting to hear back from 82transam up there, maybe we can get together and work this out, but right now I got to get to bed, I got to place all the orders for the store tomorrow

Yeah Thanks Man,
First you hook me up with a sweet sterling, now your hooking me up with awesome wiring help!
Yes, I will be removing the rats nest, so that takes care of a lot of the plug, but I think the wiring harness I bought has already had the emissions hacked out of them. I will have to go back through it and redo his CRAPPY splices with solder and heat shrink, but oh well.

No problem, I was wondering if you still had that carb or not, glad its still working haha!
Yeah, you'll get the wiring, just get the harness from a FC and like I said start with the plug at the ECU side and mark everything, then work your way back to the components you need. As long as your methodical about it and not jumping from one component to the next and getting confused you'll be alright!

Also it has been said the Haltec E6X has big glitches and you are WAY better to go with the E6K at this point.
EDIT: I shouldn't use the term glitches, i should say it is way more finiky than the K so you really have to do a top notch job to have it operate right. Many people do a half *** job and find it sucks way more than the E6K which is less finicky

1500 is a little more than I was looking to spend for an ECU, and that is too much ECU for what I need, but thanks for the offer.
I have been looking for one in the For sale section, but working during the day, and VERY limited access to the club, I seem to miss the good deals on ECU's which seem to go quick on here. I missed an awesome deal on someone selling their haltech that had already been set up on a TII FB, but live goes on.
If I find a deal on a good E6K, I will snag it up, but right now Im just gonna stick with my Rtek 1.7 FC ECU.

Well, I got my new oil cooler in yesterday, I have finally started to figure out tis wiring nightmare, if I can get the wiring done in time then I should be golden for finishing in time.
I Leave this this morning in 6 hours for Cali, I will be at Lake Tahoe for a week, enjoying some time off work. I really wish It could be spent working on the mazda but wha can ya do.
I am still trying to source a wiring harness, and some other relays I need. Then besides a clutch and exhaust I will have all the parts needed.
I will check in from time to time while im away.
he whole drive down to Louisiana, all I could think about was how sweet it would have been to drive the Turbo FB, I was making blow off sounds and everything lol.
Well I gt to get some sleep before the flight.

Update 3/15 - 28 Days Left
Crunch time is upon me,
I have been getting a lot of parts in over the last two weeks, A lot of good needed parts, but I had a major set back on the wiring harness.
I asked for a main wiring harness, and thats just what I got, only bad thing was that it wasn't really what I thought it was going to be.
Ends up I needed the ECU wiring harness, not the main.
I waited all that time getting it from Cali, and now I have to turn right back around and wait more.
The wiring is going to be my main hurdle in this project.
I am going to go to auto zone and get a few caps and gasket material, and start working on blocking off all the unneeded stuff. I have decided to go premix this time around, because im sure the engine needs all the lube it can get. Sadly I dont see the engine making it much past deals gap but hey it could happen!
I will say this again, if someone made a plug and play swap harness they would make bank!
-Matt

Hey Matt, I'll drop in and at least throw you an "Atta Boy". You've helped me more than you know, and I'll gladly return the favor if the opportunity arises down the road.
For everyone else's understanding, I don't know if they came out of this GSL-SE or not, but Matt sent me a set of airbox brackets and coolant bottle for my SE, which was necessary to keep my AFM level in the car and get reliable metering. All he asked in return was that I cover the shipping, which was very cool of him.
Just make sure you can keep up a full head of steam and keep the motivation up, and it might come together for you pretty quickly. Best of luck, man.
