Project: Deals Gap
Ok as many of you may know, I have been in the process of building a TII powered FB.
I havent touched it for almost a year, as I have had some tough times with life, but thats all behind me now and im looking forward to the new year.
As of late I have been really unhappy with life, waking up just in time to go to work, coming home playing xbox until I pass out and repeat. It was not fun, nor was it healthy.
But now I have changed my routine, I still work 7 days a week 10+ hours a day at the family business, but now I wake up early and get things done that I have always said I would do. I have cut back my xbox time, and have been setting goals for myself and reaching them.
Ive never really set a long term goal and went for it and made it, but with my new lifestyle comes new challenges.
My Goal:
Is to finish cleaning the shop, and start on the build and have it done on or before the first of April, So I can travel to Deals Gap. I believe that with the help of this forum, and hard work on my end that I can reach this goal.
On my property I own a 40X60 shop, it is a mess. For the past 3 nights I have been cleaning and working in it for at least an hour every night, if not more.
Day 1

Day 2

I will turn 21 on April 8th, and getting that shirt when I arrive at Deals Gap will be the best present I could ever hope to get.
Ive got a lot of work ahead of me, but if you guys will help me out and give me advise on the build and encouragement. I will hold up my end of the bargain.

That shop is sweet man! I'm jealous, all of my projects get built in a dirt floor barn thats not even wide enough to ope the FB's doors all the way....
I too have the tentitive goal of getting my T2 FB done for deals gap, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the $ and time off to do so....
We've all been stuck in that rut, glad to see your pulling yourself out of it! Good luck.

WOW, my garage is jealous!!! It's 34* in there right now, with my spaceheater getting it up to my operational temp 38. BTW bring a radio/ other hobbie in the garage, ohhh beer when your 21. I find that having something else going will keep me in the garage longer.
Didn't know you guys had a deals gap thing going on, gonna have to look at that. Was going to go on my bike with local guys, until my bike became a "deathtrap" as described by the guru's lol. I won't have time for suspension though, and thats a must down there.
Oh and matt, don't be afraid/surprised if you see a tall guy with a rx-7 in your shop, its prolly warm to huh?

GREAT STORY!! Post up when you plan on going and I'll be happy to meet you there. NEver seen any 1st gen there.
I have riden Deals gap on a motorcycle and I have drivin it at least 3 times. I believe it is more fun in a car than on a motorcycle....beieve it or not, I'm only 17!
I find your story very inspiring and makes me feel lucky to have my 7. Mine sat in my driveway for a year until I finally had the money to rebuild the motor(which my dad and I did ourselves) then it didnt ever run right agian(it ate a bolt) so I had to save up by selling my truck to but a new motor for it. Now it runs like a dream and no-matter what anyone says about it. Its my baby. So plz let me know when you plan on making a trip to the Gap and I can give you a place to crash. I live in Concord, NC about 4 hours from the gap.

Update 2/18 - 53 days left
Ok not much went on over the weekend, as that is when we are the most busy at the store.
Its all I think about at work is how can I get home quicker to work on my shop/car.
Even after working a 12 hour day today, I was able to get out there and clean, It doesnt look any better; it actually looks worse, because the cars are all moved around making it look cluttered. There was so much dirt in the air that the pictures came out fuzzy, I was a cleaning demon I tell ya. I have to wear a mask, its bad.

I took the pics in the same spot I took the last ones, couldnt tell though
I have thrown away a ton of JUNK, we have a 8 yard dumpster at the store and I know a good 4-5 yards of it are stuff ive hauled off, and I still got another load I just have to wait until Wednesday after they dump it, as we still have trash from the store to fit in.
I am in for alot of work, I got to looking at the engine a little tonight, but thats a later story. Im focusing on the shop right now, one step at a time.

Very nice shop. I too am working to get my GSL-SE ready for deals gap (not as much planned for it as yours though):
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-general-discussion-207/gsl-se-project-updates-731243/
My buddy has another FB project he's getting together for deals gap too:
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/another-build-thread-731261/
It would be great to see this car completed and at the event. I noticed the TJ in there, is that yours? I've got an '05 TJ w/ 31" ATs on it as my daily in the winter.
Good luck and keep us posted.
