Project About To Happen, With PICS!!

Hello my fellow RX7 members and owners,
I remember my first n00b post, my first time people bitched at me, and all the things I have learned from these forums. I have spent a great deal reading and educating myself. Everytime I read a ubber n00b post that has been posted a million times I think to myself...heh, I may call them a n00b but I know I once asked retarded questions too. Well with that said, I must declare something..

Today I have finally taken the first step in making my baby like new again and have decided to go all out and treat her how she diserves to be treated. Now I say that, however I already change her oil on a regular bases, havent given up on her *** when she brakes down every other week, as well as give her a wash n buff (dont know what paint i am buffing tho..). When I say that I will treat her like she needs to be treated, that is because I have decided to turn her into a project.

Not a major TII Swap(I thought long and hard but have decided it is not for me) but I am going to give her mods which many of you already have. To some it is nothing specail, but to me it will be great to see the day I am finished. I have a few questions with some of my mods and will have ** next to where I need some input. Also feel free to give me some input on what you think might be a wise add on. Thank you.

Here is my tenetive plan so far(I will be doing all work along with a friend in mexico) I have researched on these forums, off of these forums, and have the sites and stores listed where I will make all of my purchases as well as my rough estimates on pricing.

------------------------------------
She is an 85 GSL-SE with over 220,500 miles original motor(still runs great!)

New/Used MAF
New Driveshaft(Figured that out because of you guys )
Did the KN Cone swap
Straight through cat....however I did not do this..my car did it on its own..

Now for the replacements
-----------------------------------------
Fuel cap*hehehe*

Replace my broken window sprayers

Street/Strip Pressure Plate

Lightweight Steel Flywheel(Racing beat)*** Here I have a question. Do I got with the light wait steel or the aluminum? There is almost a hundred dollar difference
and it would be over that amount if I purchase the replacement friction plate. Do I NEED that plate, and do you guys suggest it??
From those with experience, do you suggest steel or aluminum? Is one more reliable than the other??***

Steel Clutch Hose

Throwout Bearing

Transmission Seal Kit***I saw that this was recommend by racingbeat when doing transmission work, do I really need it or is it wise to replace it?***

Suspension Package

Torque Brace

Complete overhaul including, all fluids changed, all belts changed, all tubing replaced, clean engine bay, AC recharge, ect.

Aftermarket Fuel Pump***Do you guys suggest this? I have that an upgraded fuel pump helps out alot, I am planning on a street port. What are some suggested upgrades?***

Upgraded Fuel Injectors***Along the same lines as the fuel pump. What are some suggestions on size? Does brand matter?***

Brake Line Kit 1984-85 RX-7 w/rear disc(Racingbeat)

New Roof hinges(see pic below )

Haynes Manual(lost my other one:P)

Nice travel(24+hrs) to mexico for custom(embroider my initails to headrest, put larger mirrors in sunvisors, embroider RX7 on sunvisors, and other details not yet decided) all leather black interior, repainted panels and replace cracks(black), custom paint job-black with blue pearl, shave almost everything,
see about creating a custom electric moonroof as well as a custom glass top, replace yellow lights with white, stock body and stock rims(I just cant change the face of a classic ), New tint

Self Porting(Will have my friend do this)***I am going to buy the templates from racing beat, does anyone happen to know what their sizes are(small, medium, or large port)?
Also, I have the 6port 13B, so does that mean it would be useless to do the intake port and should only do the exhaust port? Or Do I do both? I would like a medium size port job because I am afraid that a large port will reduce the reliability of the motor greatly, or am I wrong?***

:EDIT: I Will also be doing an engine rebuild and will probably buy the kit from racingbeat, anyone have a cheaper store to buy a rebuild kit from?

As for the stero and what not, that will come last. I will replace everything with Alpine and may in time include a navigation and radar. But like I said, that does not matter to me.

With the port, exhaust set up, flywheel, do you think it is possible for me to make it to at least 150hp? Im not a hp freak or anything but was trying to get a ball park figure.

Oh ya, what about a lighter under pulley? I could not find one, should I do that switch? Thanks alot guys and will wait for some responses!

Another upgrade I forgot to mention is the ECU. Do I need to upgrade the ecu? Or would it be more of a hassle, a big *** gass guzzler, and less reliability than what its worth?

unless you go turbo, i don't really see a need to upgrade the ecu, since it's already wired for the EGI.

thats what I figured after looking at some of the other threads. What about upgraded fuel injecters or fuel pump? Arent the ones on my SE 550? Wouldnt that be enough to make use of the street port?

i believe the SE injectors are 680. more flow then FC injectors, but there are only two in the SE, four in the FC. you don' t need to upgrade those unless you go turbo.

but you may want to get them cleaned and flow tested.

ya, i def. need to do that. Thanks alot cpt for alot of help.
Do you happen to know about the port? Do I go with both ports, or is the exhaust port the only port that will make a difference?

Ok, since I cant edit the dang thing..I have done some more searching and answered a few of my questions
Aftermarket fuel pump and injectors- dont need 'em
steel or aluminum?- Steel all the way
What kind of port?- Medium is whats right for me.

Port part 2- Intake or exhaust port?--:EDIT:Aww hell..after reading I dont know what to think...
Also plan on adding pineapple racing sleaves.
I only need a pair correct?
Only other two questions, transmission seals- do i need them? RB Rebuild kit- best price around?

yeah steel flywheel would be better for street use. the friction material they are talking about is a replacement part, it comes with one on it already.

yes you only need a pair of the pineapple racing sleeves. do a search on here about them. a lot of ppl have had problems with them and some havent had any, just do a search and decide if you want to do that or not.

i think atkins might be a cheaper source for the rebuild kit http://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/cu...me.php?cat=590
atkins also sell stuff on ebay
http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQs...nsrotaryQ2dcom
normally they sell gasket kits for around 440 i think,i only saw one on there right now

the trans seal kit isnt absolutly needed at the moment, but you will have the trans out so you might as well do it now instead of pulling it out later. thats just what i would do.

you should be able to make 150HP with out any problems on that set-up.look up fire85gslse hes making around 170~190 in his -se(basic rebuild, street port,rb exhaust)he also has a recent thread about using a megasquirt on an -se. it would allow you to tune the car better, ditch the afm and its pretty cheap.

btw ive got just over 215k on my -se and its still running strong =)

Thanks alot for all the help skrew. Just saved me over a hundred dollars. Checked on the sleaves and I will just say skrew those, as for the kits at atkins, for the complete overhaul, would you reccomend kit C ?

I looked up firegslse85 and see that he has the complete exhaust port, is that the only port to benefit the 6port engine?

I love rotary engines, they just keep on going strong!

check out www.rotaryaviation.com for apex seals...not sure if they will work on an -se...but lordy are they cheap!

as far as the rest of the rebuild parts go...id try buying a soft seal rebuild kit off of ebay...then buy the rest of the parts you need off of www.atkinsrotary.com ...i had this all figured out a while ago for a 12a...and this was the cheapest way to go.

also...id go with an upgraded clutch kit...go ACT is what i think...but even if you dont upgrade...make sure you replace the clutch

ya, I am going to get the steel clutch cables, racingbeat HD clutch and pressure plate. That sound good? Seems to be nice from the responses in the forums.

damn car....I fixed my hinges but today I when I went to leave work the battery died completly, had a friend jump me and it started right up. Went over to my GF's house...bastard was dead again and had her drive me home...I'll be checking to see if my battery is ok. Fix one thing and another thing goes wrong*sigh*.

Nice to see someone else bringer an old beaten one back up to par. Mines slowly becoming more and more complete...I just want to drive it. I haven't had the luxury yet. Good luck on the build, I'm kind of rushing mine along though, and I know how it goes with the dead battery...I just jump it off my Hyundai Accident. (I know what I just typed, it has a meaning in the name.)

Well it was only the fusible links thank goodness. I was at work and asked my gf to take the battery to get it tested and to buy me another hanes manual. She bought the book and told me the battery was fine and I asked her to check the fusible links(she hardly knows anything about cars) she re-checked them and one was loose I take it and she fixed it Im proud of my baby :P
