You know you like the BB's haha Yea I try to grind as many off as possible, I didn't feel like going crazy afterwards on this one, although I did sandblast the whole thing before paint....
And yes your correct its a flux cored wire feed welder. It's a good welder with MIG capabilities, but i've just never taken the time to go get a gas bottle and set it up for MIG....
Thanks for the compliments, all the stuff came out pretty good. I just hope the motor mount's mounting points are strong enough and don't damage the frame or something....

I've used a flux core and a gas Mig and theres no comparison (especially for a fair to midland welder like me). The gas Mig wins hands down for penetration and less splatter. Spend the money, you'll thank me.

haha nice. I'm basically done with welding on this project, so no huge rush on getting a gas bottle, but I would like to get it before I go on to my next restoration project, I'm sure its way better...

Big update I actually drove it today! It still "idles" at 2000 rpm and i went maybe a total of 2 miles over several little drives, but still it felt really good to finally move it under its own power.
Definatly still a lot of bugs to iron out and things to finish up. I'll be wetsanding and polishing it tomorrow, so I'll post pics after that....

Ya i have a max time frame of 2 weeks to get it all done and up on the road. That should give me atleast 4 days to tune the Megasquirt a bit so that I could drive 200km to my tunning session. THats the only part that scares me. 2 years ago when I drove up there for visiting a buddy with my holley just installed, I had my Car's engine stall, and lost brake booster power going at about 60mph and approaching traffic. Nothing bad happened but thats why I'm scared of the trip.

Another minor update, got the quarter panels and part of the spoiler color sanded and polished. I was taking my time with all of that, didn't want to rush and get half assed results. Its shining up beautifully! Also messed around with the throttle body and got the idle down to around 800/900 which is right where I want it... Still idles kinda rough, like its bridgeported... Still have to work on that.

John: wirewheels are your friend for getting old gaskets off...

There are still many details left to finish, but here are some teaser pics I took today after washing it off. Still much color-sanding and polishing to do, as I've only done the quarter panels/sail panels and the rear wraparound (above tail lights) but so far its coming out very nicely!
Just a couple quick notes, I will be running the front grill, just had it off to get the FC oil cooler in place, haven't put it back on yet. I also still have a bit of work left on the interior; differnet seats, gauges in the stero surround etc, so no pics of the interior yet. Also still much tuning and adjustments to be done..
Oh and I'm also getting a smaller and quieter muffler, so that magnaflow won't be on there much longer, sounds great but way too loud.
Anyway, enjoy!

I made some simple brackets out of some left over metal I had and welded them to the tube cross member in front of the radator. The stock FC rubber mounts bolt right up to the mounts I made. When I get home I'll post a couple pics of the mounts I made. The lines are from corksport made for a FC.

Sean;
I know you are looking for LE wheels for your car, but I really like the BBS wheels against the black body.

Looks great.

This is an inspiration to me. I hope to someday have a project like this one. I am busy being a freshman in college now. I'm not sure if I should start a major project like this during the summer or just wait until I finish school and become established.

Haha thanks! I don't know if I'd go as far as calling my work inspirational, but it came out pretty decently I guess... I almost forgot about this thread, guess it's time for an update eh?

Basically at this point I've put over 500 miles on the car, it breezed through inspection too!! The HC was pretty close to the limit, but it went through on the first shot and thats with no trickery. I was very happy about that!
It still needs some more polishing, there are swirl marks all over it, and my "home brew" alignment probably isn't the best thing in the world, getting an actual alignment is definatly on the to do list.

A few other comments I'll make, the G-force Tri link setup is way too noisy and annoying for street use, I ended up going back to the 4 link setup, however I still have the G-force Panhard bar on there, still handles very well, again for street use.

I'm also not sure if I'll be keeping the coil overs or camber plates up front, its just more things to add adjustability where I really don't need adjustability (again this is purley a street car), and the eibach pro-kit springs I have out back are too soft compared to the stiffer front springs, you can feel the imbalance, especially compared to my other FB which has eibach's all around. Both the coil overs and camber plates are from Re-speed and are great quality, I'm not knocking them at all, just a little overboard at least for me in this case...
Optima Redtop batteries (which I have in my other FB and never had a problem with) seem to suck now. I've read a few posts where people have had problems with them, and the one in this car is no different. It goes dead after only a few days, and will not take a full charge. The charger kicks on the "error light" after a few hours of charging... I'm going to double check everything this week sometime to make sure the alternator is charging properly and there is no draw, but either way it seems I would need a new battery...

Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the car, it's got the usual array of FC issues like hunting idle while cold and takes a few cranks to start, where my carb'd 12a starts after like 2 turns lol. But once it warms up the idle is silky smooth and having ~220hp in a FB is quite nice

I'll have to get some new pics to post.
