Product Review - Bolted in my new racing seat last night!!
Hey guys, I just bolted in my new Corbeau Forza racing seat last night. For those that will call out rice, the only reason for this was my broken (and dangerous) stock seat and a friend-of-a-friend who works for Corbeau Canada. I got the black one too, so it's not bright red or anything like that.
I thought I'd share some thoughts in case any of you were thinking about going the same way.
Installation:
Would have been a whole lot easier if instructions had been included! The Corbeau 79-85 rx7 bracket and sliders completely replace the stock system. Luckily it is similar enough to the stock one, so it wasn't too hard to figure out. You need to do everything in the right order though, so I bolted things up prematurely the first time. The seat has slots to route the seatbelt. Not a big job at all though.
Fit: Almost doesn't!!!
If the seat were half a centimeter closer to the door, if wouldn't fit. This is because it has huge shoulder supports that are wider than the base of the seat. Very tight, others contemplating different seats will want to measure very carefully.
My biggest issue is that it seems to sit a little higher than the stock seat - although I think it actually just feels that way because of the steep seat angle. The new sliders do offer a greater range of adjustment than the stockers do. If wanted more headroom, you could always bolt it to the floor or to the stock sliders somehow. This, or reclinable seats, might be mandatory for those who are over 6 feet tall.
Driving Impressions:
Well, they weren't kidding when they said this is an FIA approved competition seat. It's impossible to get into the car quickly anymore, because the seat has very high sides. Also the angle of the seat is fixed at a steep 72 degrees, which mandates a very upright driving position whether you like it or not. Because of the padding/knee support at the edge of the seat, you can't really slouch or lean back too much.
So don't buy these kind of seats for the "look" of them, make sure you try them because they aren't at all like factory seats. Street-style reclinable seats are way more comfortable, but you have to buy two and I'm not rich
The upside is that you are just locked in the damn things; I took a few hard corners and didn't move at all. With my broken stock seat, I would slide halfway off on every on-ramp, etc.
I think most people associate excessively reclined seats and hardly reaching the steering wheel with being *sporty*, but I'm beginning to see how that position offers very little control. Sitting upright and close to all the controls, not to mention being locked in position, allows you to focus on your driving much better.
I think I just need to get used to it and I will love it, however I can't imagine long highway drives to be much fun....
Alright, pictures to come eventually (no digi cam).

Yeah, I can't believe I was so lucky... my seat just barely touches the door.
Let me know how you like driving with yours, Momo seats are nice. Did you get the one-piece style, or reclinable?

I totally agree; yesterday I drove past some civic dude and I swear there's absolutely no way he could have been able to see over the hood of his car! I don't know how anyone could even avoid an accident driving like that, let alone any sort of fast/spirited driving!
THX for the compliment

it's like the 1000 Lakes (non-reclinable), but last years model
I got it really cheap
I had Corbeau Targa RS (reclinable), but they were too heavy (27 lbs)
The Momo is maybe 15lbs (all fiberglass), it sits lower too

I got my seat cheap too (factory-direct). I really wanted the Carrera reclinables, I tried them out in the shop and they are incredible. I have to pay tuition in 2 weeks though, and can't afford the $1200 it would have cost.
My Forza has a tubular steel frame, it weighs only 16lbs!!
It was very noticeable how much lighter it is than the stock seat, which seemed to weigh a ton.

I sit upright, but far back in any car. I push the seat as far back as I can while still being able to push all the pedals to the floor, then I move it foreward one or two notches, still checking to make sure I can reach everything I need to quickly. (Climate and radio controls, glove box, etc.)

Hey GSL-SE,
I tried the clubman out (the shop has them all set up to try), and it is very tight and restrictive, much more so than the Forza. Also I am only 5'8", so if you are big then forget it. The Clubman is really deep and hard to get into. But I'll bet it would fit nicer.
The place I got mine is actually a tuning shop that also represents Corbeau Canada, I ordered them factory direct. The guy that owns the shop is a friend of a friend, unfortunately he's in Miami right now and I don't know the rest of them.
The place is called RT Motorsport, in Toronto, phone is (905)-669-8444. My Forza cost me $399 plus $120 for the bracket. This is a pretty damn good price for Canada, where everything costs twice as much as the US
Ask for Rick when you call - tell him a friend of Jeff said they'd give you a deal. I'm not Jeff, but he's the guy that hooked me up. The guy that owns the place is Dale, but like I said he's not around now. Same goes for all you guys
I doubt if you would find them any cheaper elsewhere.

Paul,
Those Cobras are sweet.
My seat is exactly 22" across the shoulders as well, but like I said, it barely fits.
I think it depends as well on the position the seat is mounted in as well, and how high it sits. David88vert said his Momo does not fit, and I believe Momo's are about 21" wide. Maybe the Momo brackets make the seats sit differently?
If you can, go to a shop in your area, and get them to measure carefully and 'guarantee' they fit. Then it would less hassle to get different seats if they didn't fit.
