Power windows in a 79?
First of all i did do a search but only came up with goose eggs. There were a few threads but nothing to the point.I have a 83 parts car that has power windows.I drive a 79 that does not.I cant just swap doors because the 83 has a smashed door.Has anyone done this and be willing to give some insight?

Are you doing a complete harness swap from the 83 car to the 79 if so then all you have to do is drill a bigger hole in the door front for the harness and mark out the holes for the window regulator on the door and you are pretty much done. As far as the harness swap it isn't too difficult i have done it several times. Benefits, change in type of alternator, better dash guages (of course you will have to plumb the engine for oil pressure) use of ignitor dizzy, then you can add power mirrors, power windows etc.... of course any or all of these things can be grafted in but you know how it is.

I swapped FB power window regulators into my '80 years ago.
Regulators bolt right in with no drilling. Main work is in fabricating wiring & locating switches. You need two DPDT-CO (double-pole, double-throw, center-off) switches with enough ampacity to handle the motors - - either stock ones from an FB or aftermarket.
I mounted mine in the coin recesses in the shift surround. Better solution would be to use the ashtray-mount instead, but I didn't know about it back when I did mine.
Be aware that with power regulators the window glass does not retract fully in the door frame as it did with manual regulators. Glass stops with about 1/2" still exposed.

You may be able to tap directly off the 12 volt accessory line on the ignition switch with an inline fuse. Just strip out the power window switch wires and those for the power windows and you will be done. It is actually pretty simple once you have done it.

your 80 doors would work if they were late 80 doors as mazda did make a JDM option Limited with power windows that was the first one with power windows so to answer the other question there was no provision for power windows on a 79 which is what the car in question is. You can do a direct conversion but have ensure that what ever circut you use has the amperage to support it and if you change the fuse to higher amp fuse that all the wire beyond to the original circut can handle the increase.
