Question Power Sunroof for a 1 Gen.??

Power Sunroof for a 1 Gen.??

Can I install a 2 or 3 generation power sunroof into any 1 generation RX-7? I was thinking if is possible to cut around the sunroof area of a 2/3 gen. and 1 gen. and weld the power sunroof into the roof of the 1 gen. RX-7. Any ideas are welcome.

Why? that would just add more weight and it wouldn't be all that great. Is there a problem with the **** that raises yours?

Whats with the forum today?

Every one seeems so tuchy.

Ok every one Good air in

Bad Air out.

But it kinda a bad idea Making the sunrood hole larger will probably comprimise structual integrity. It will for suer in a solid top car.

The FB relies on the intergity of the body to keep its self together. Altering that is not a worth while risk. Becides who wants to add a heavy motor to the car?

You should be a member of Supraforums right now...

Anyways, the power sunroof on the 2nd gen RX7 weighs in at 45lbs...no including the stiff mounting points and such in the roof. I would think that the addition of a power sunroof alone would add in the vacinity of 75lbs. Of course you can also see it like this...sunroof=uber cool. Ideal solution? Chassis stiffining and custom targa.

Beings that's not feasable to the majority of FB owners I'll go ahead and say that it's probably not worth the added wieght, work, and cost to try and install a 2nd/3rd gen sunroof. If you're dead set on it then yea, it's possible, but plan on having at least spending $1000-1500 on the project.

added to which, the compound curve of the ist gen roof will not match the curve of the 2nd gen roof - you'll end up fabbing everything or having a crappy, leaky fit

so what if it adds a few extra pounds? People put bigger rims on their car and then complain about loss of acceleration because of it but they say they can't live without them. Personally, I would like to see him do it and post pics. So what if it adds 45-70 lbs if he likes it? I'm 6' 1" and 215lbs. I really don't care about weight of the car. I'm built pretty solid and I'm not going to lose weight.

^some people are more performance oriented...this happens to be a forum full of those people...

I have a question about the FB sunroof...does the back just flip up or does the whole thing slide back like the FC?

FB sunroofs just flip up. They also are removeable.

So rather than sliding into the roof of the car, you put them in the "trunk" of your 7

Yeah, you'd probably enjoy a glass sunroof like I have in my 84 GSL.

I know I like mine.....pretty light, and easy to pop in and out when I feel like it. There really isnt a whole lot of room to work with on an FB roof.

If you're looking for power......check some aftermarket shops nearby. If its possible to fit, they can install one for you, pretty tight job, no leaks for around $500.

Do you expect the sun roof to slide INTO the roof, or pop up and slide over it?

there's no room IN the roof...it'd have to slide over.

That'd be something cool to have. Post some pictures if you ever get that done. I think that looks are as important as performance. If it wasn't, I would'nt be driving my seven. Only thing about a power roof is that I noticed between like model cars with and without the power roof, the ceiling heigth is lower in the car with the power roof, and that might not go too cool since the top is pretty low to begin with.

I've seen one picture of an electric powered moonroof
on an FB. and it does slide over the roof. It has too, no other way for it to work. The stock sunroof(metal) with the headliner does make it seem tighter inside. But the glass moonroofs open up the insides tons. I've installed glass moonroofs on both of my 7's. I'm still trying to fab. some sort of 'soft shade' for when the sun is just to hot overhead with a glass roof. It does happen.

I agree to a point but it seems that there are plenty that just go for show here too. With my weight, I'm at a disadvantage already but at least I have a SA and it makes up for it some.
