Power steering and a hair brained idea

So i've been thinking about my rally car project and how crappy people say the FB power steering is.

Any of you know if the FC power steering box/pump/assembly would bolt in without "major" modification? I'm still trying to find any power steering assembly right now, just trying to broaden the swath i'm searching.

If that fails I may try something totally insane, but i'll keep my stupid ideas to myself for now.

btw: i have searched and the only reply i found was "don't put power steering in"

And... if this thing is going to be stuck in a rut, i would like to have that little extra force to help push the front end out.

but its late, i'm dead tired... if anyone else finds better results in a search, please point me that direction.

well i would think your problems would not be so much in getting the fc pump physically in, but im pretty sure the ps pump in fc's are variably controlled by the ecu, at high speeds the assist is barely there at all, and at low speeds its helps alot and so forth

Yea the S4 PS is controlled by a module that regulates a stepper motor valve on the PS unit. If you could convert the SE PS voltage signal to a stepper motor input you're in business. It doesn't look that hard, but I haven't had time to figure it out. Then just get some hoses made up and there ya go.

Anyway, here is another link that may be of help.

Why not use the FB P/S pump with the FC rack?

The FC rack is designed to fit in the FC body.Simply bolting it to the FB chassis isnt possible.Youd be better off doing a full FC front subframe swap so the rack will bolt right in.But thats probably impossible to do with a 12A since youd have to use an FC oilpan and FC motormounts, both of which are incompatible with the 12A.
At this point in time, the only bolt in rack and pinion system for the FB is CP racings non power setup.(which is less than perfect and not gotten great reviews, although I'm mostly happy with it)

Because at the moment I have yet to find a FB P/S pump.

The original plan was to just get an FB P/S setup and bolt it in. But then I started thinking about it and figured that the FC assembly might have a little better tollerances and provide a more solid feel.
