Ps

Try replacing the front seal for the leak. As far as the nise the bearing may be gone. Provably needs replacing. If you do away with the system I'll be interested in buying the pulley.

Junk that P/S pump completely along with the lines. I prefer running a GSL steeering box w/o the power streering pump THAN a non-GSL steering box.

I haven't actually experienced the power steering in the first gens, but I know I love my car without it.

I have both systems and I can assure you the non assisted is great, but if you use the non power steering box, do the tightening per the FAQ tutorial

the power box has a faster turning ratio, which is better imho.
I run a 1st gen power steering pump that I rebuilt with a mazda oem rebuild kit that I got from mazdatrix. I have NO leaks or sqeaks at all.

It was pretty straight forward...take it all apart and replace all non metal parts, which is only like 6 or so O-rings and several seals. Make sure to get a mazda workshop manual, if you dont already have one... it has the pump assembly drawing which really makes it easy. I'm sure someone can scan the page for you if needed. I think it was around $60
