Power Pulse Air Filter assembly(79-85)

Hey guys, I just got this from racingbeat. This thing rocks. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm Its the white carb hat. Its great. It sounds a lot better. My car is stock except for that now and my rb engine torque brace. It sounds a whole lot better, more meaty. I can hear the intake now, couldn't with stock. I totoally reccomend this if you just want a new carb hat or something. Great product. Only problem is there's no place for the 5 hoses the came from the original carb.

Yep, its pretty hard to describe the sound to someone who's never heard it. Its like giving your car a healthy shot of testosterone (puts a little bass into its voice). Just plug all those hoses at their source...

What did you use to plug the hoses. By at their source, you mean what the hoses are attached too right??

Nick p., thats what it is. I guess the link didn't work

No, not close. If you look at your carb(sotck one) There are 6 hoses connected to it. Take your carb off and then look at the hoses. They say i need to block those hoses off at the source because there is no place for the hoses for the power pulse

I say remove the rat's nest if you still have it on there. The Racing Beat air filter assembly is designed for cars that have already had it removed, which is why those hoses don't go there anymore.

Twink, just find bolts that will fit snug enough in the hoses to seal them. The bigger hoses you can add a clamp around the bolt. I've even seen people use wine bottle corks for some of the larger ones. The ribbed hose coming off the top of the exhaust mani can be removed entirely.

So guys, i read a thread that i looked up and it says that there are some parts that use the vacuum. Like the brake booster and other stuff. If i plug these holes will this stuff not work? I'm confused. Should i get those hoses to custom fit the carb hat??

The brake booster hose comes off of the intake manifold, no worry there. There is one hose that comes off the oem air cleaner that supplies vacuum to the nest, if left open, the engine will not idle correctly, if plugged, the rats nest loses it's vacuum source for some of the solenoids. If you want that hooked up, get creative and tap the base of the air cleaner, inside of the filter ring, and hook it up.

Sit down and study the vacuum diagrams in the FSM. That will show you what supplies what, then you can decide what you want working or not.

Ok. So let me get this straight. I don't need the white huge vacuum hose. Now, when i went on a drive with the power pulse on everything worked normal, idle was great. Every single hose was left on(except the white one), but obviously not connected to anything. I've searched, but i still don't get it. What are all the hoses for? Aren't they just all vacuum hoses? The only difference is that the hoses aren't connected to anything, so why should i plug them??? Can i just leave them on there with no plugs? Thanks for trying to get me through this small problem
