power antenna

How much does the power antenna motor weigh?
And is it possible to remove it? Mine hasn't worked since around '87.

You have to remove the tailight to gain access for removal. pretty simple job really. The tailight seals are your only real concern if they are dryed out or rotted you should replace them. Weight ??? why would you be concerned with that ? It only weighs maybe 2-3 pounds tops, and that is being generous I think.

I need to get to mine. I come to find out when the PO had a new radio installed they put in a manual antenna. I guess they couldn't figure out how to get the old one out, so they unbolted it and left it sitting down in the rear fender somewhere. Now I know what that damn rattle is ....lol

its easy, unscrew the top and it should fall in the fender. Remove the back panel (not the side). there is a hole that you can fit about a hand and a half in. If you're lucky the antenna will be stuck down and you can just move it around until you get it the hole. there will be a few wires hooked to it. Just disconnect and removed.

However if you are in the same position I was in today you might have to do this. My antenna was broken and bent and stuck about a half a foot up. I had to end up taking a hack saw and cutting it almost at the base. Then pulled it out. I replaced it with rubber bendy one from autozone. Works like a charm and looks great.

If it's like mine, it won't fall into the fender by removing the top. Mine had two bolts on the inside but maybe that is just on SAs. And yes, the easiest way to get to it is to remove the taillight but it "can" be done without doing that. Its not that tough of a job. Good luck.

Well, to be specific, there isn't really an antenna mast connected (I use XM), just a nub. Removing the tails isn't really a problem, don't see the big deal there. A few of us down here all made our tails "Custom" when Jay taught us how

My uncle was pissed at first, but he ended up liking it, and got pissed when I told him I was going to put some stock ones back in :P

is there any easy way to fix a fucked up mast? mine just crapped out today and im way to lazy to do anything about it. Is the only fix by taking off the taillights and installing a new one?

I should just get XM
